|
|
Sprint now has Rev. A in my area. So I am planing to dump Verizon (downloading lots of stuff now so they kick me out again) and get a new Sprint card for my KR1. Looks like my choices are the Pantech PX-500 or the U720 (both supported by the RK1010 firmware). What would you get and why?
BTW - I have a booster antena an want to re-use it. |

I believe the Pantech does not have an external antenna connection while the U720 does. That alone would make my mind up. Hey, it actually did. That is why I have a S720.

| The Pantech PX-500 definitely does have an external antenna connector. I have the Pantech, and while I'm generally happy with the performance, I've been told that the 720 is built sturdier and has nominally better performance. |

Why do folks continue to believe such drivel (no external anntenna port on PX-500 cards) when there is an abundance of information available showing that it does have an external antenna port.
Photo from the PX-500 review on EVDO Info (http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/822/40/) showing the old "tombstone" style antenna connected to a PX-500 card:

Go for the U720.. It works great, could be used in the router, or in any computer alone, where the PX-500 couldn't since most new laptops have Express Card slots, not PCMCIA.
Also, the U720 has great GPS ability, does the PX-500? |

Hey guys
I honestly thought the card didn't have an external antenna port. It was the real reason why I went with the 720. I know I read it somewhere too so just shared the reason why I purchased the card I did. Oh well. (shrug)
You certainly can not get away with incorrect info on this board. hehe
Thanks for setting the record straight. I'm still satisfied with the purchase I made, for what it is worth.

| Since Verizon refused to kick me out I have delayed switching. My contract is up 11/2 so the question is what is the best Sprint device for the KR1 these days? |

Ummm... Not everyone needs GPS on a data card..
The PX-500 has been a solid performer for myself..
Granted, I don't need a fancy spancy, bells and whistles type of card to surf the net..
Just my 2 cents.. _________________ EVDO Addict. |

I have items identified above and can't get them to work since Sprint upgraded to EVDO in my area. Also, read some links that the PX-500 would not work with the KR-1 in the EVDO/REV-A mode.
I certainly hope that I am incorrect, I do NOT want to purchase just another piece of equipment to only become obsolete the next day. Please advice |

I've used the Pantech px-500 with many different routers.
KR1
KR2
Top Global MB6000
Dlink DIR-450
With the proper firmware it is compatible with all the above. My experience with the Pantech px-500 and the KR1 is that is works very well but would stop about once a day and would have to be reset. It does have an external antenna port but it is hard to find the correct connector cable for it. I ordered 3 different connectors before I found one that worked. Interesting thing is all the router listed above would stop at least once a day with the px500. Only the MB6000 would reset itself when it happened. I gave the kr1 to my son and he uses a U720 with it and it does not lock up on him.
I have a photo on flicker with the px500 external port with the wrong cable that was sent to me. I dont think they will let me post a link here. I'll give it a shot though.
