Attention all RVers! Would you like to have a free Google map that plots your progress this RV season? While there are many ways to do this, here is a free service courtesy of EVDOmaps.com
As you travel across the nation, stop and do a speedtest as often as you want and post the results on evdomaps.com... in the notes, consistently use a term that only your entries will ever have. for instance, i always put EVDOalex in my entries.
as a result, i now can give out an link showing only my results:
http://EVDOmaps.com/EVDOalex
obviously, i haven't gotten very far out of dallas yet
imagine if you plotted your 2007 adventure with something like 2007_MyNickHere in the notes... you could have a free google map that shows the progress of your annual trek!
Membership on evdoforums.com will be required to post your results, but the forums are a free service from the EVDO Experts at EVDOinfo.com

Hey Alex,
I'm going on a 4,000 mile road trip in July, so I'll give it a try.
One thing that would be great to add to the EVDOMaps, would be some sort of applet that could retreive the GPS data off of the EVDO card and load that into the map form instead of having to use a street address.
Most of the time when I'm RVing across the country, I don't know what my current street address is, but I always have the GPS coordinates. |

| Alex, I guarantee most RV'ers will be outside of EVDO coverage 99.9% of the time. How about a 1x map showing Sprint, Verizon & Alltel coveage? |

thanks for the comment...
while it is called EVDOmaps.com, users are able to post records that represent 1xrtt networks as well.
The site provides "filters" that would allow a visitor to choose what information they are viewing, such as carrier and network type. |

| I work in Canada most of the time and travel accross the country a lot. I have startred to document some performances from major cities. I am using a veriszon V620 on the global access plan. Unlimited North America and 100Megs Europe/Asia (V630-with Sim card). I have noticed that Verizon appears to have some agreements with the carriers up here in Hockey land to allow the system to connect EVDO vs 1x. I beleive ( somebody can correct me) that Telus is their Canadian partner. In Ontario my Verizon card has EVDO in some areas. LIke I said, my goal is to fill your map before the end of the summer. Nice feature!!
I'm just beginning my journey as a "homebased" telecommuter but already have big plans on moving around and have already tested the connection in some odd places (but didn't track speed info and other details then).
Anyway, I'll be filling in the gaps too as much as I can since I believe the EVDO map is probably one of the best selling tools for EVDO - and since I plan on traveling around myself, a great tool to plan my working trips
thanks! |
