I use Sprint EVDO at two places two miles from each other. We use various Mac computers, and at each location we have a LinkSys WRT54G3G with each having a Merlin S720 card updated for Rev A.

Since Rev A came to Minneapolis, we have had much better reception all around, in both locations. But, when I look at the Sprint Coverage Map, my home neighborhood, a total of about 10 blocks by 12 blocks, are in the Rev O color. We are smack in the middle of that color at home!!

What does Sprint do about coverage holes in the middle of high strong coverage? Does anyone have any experience with this to know about whether Sprint "fixes" it, or is this just it?

As I said above, my coverage at home is MUCH better than before Rev A, but my coverage at work is much better than that. Since we use the same exact equipment at both sites, and since the work site is in the middle of Rev A on the map, I am hoping that we will have more coverage at home.

I would love to hear what's know about this kind of issue.

Thanks in advance for all help.

Barbara

Its possible that you could be in a Rev. A area, but the maps just are not completely updated. If you have a Windows machine that you can run the connection manager on, you can see if it is a Rev. A or not, or perhaps someone else on the forum will be able to tell you if it is possible to check via your Linksys router.

However, I would say it has probably been upgraded. Now that I think about it, another good way to check would be to use Sprint's speed test site and see if your upload speed goes above 144KBp/s while at home. If it does, then you have a Rev. A connection.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. That really is a bit of what I was asking about. I certainly get Rev A speeds at home, most of the time, and I get them at work nearly all the time. But-- the speeds at home, using the same exact equipment are usually slower at the same exact moment (checking them against each other). My question is "is this because we are in a "hole" of some sort with more fluctuating signal? If so, will Sprint be adding more coverage? I do realize that the map could be off, but since the speeds are more variable and at least a bit lower consistently, I have been left to wonder Confused.

Another way for me to ask this is: Is what we have what we'll get? Or: does Sprint usually upgrade the low areas or leave them after the general area is up and running?

Again, thanks for any info.

Barbara

The reasons the speeds are lower are endless. My guess is that the tower has been upgraded, but the maps just don't reflect it. The reason for the lower speeeds could simply be that you are further from the tower, or it has a higher load on it.

On the other hand, if it is not Rev. A yet, it should be by the end of the year. Sprint has announced their intentions on making the vast majority of their EVDO network Rev. A by the end of the year. I'm not sure on Sprint's strategy for rolling it out either, I understand what you are saying, however there are many places in Michigan that had Rev. A before larger cities, so I think its up to the local engineering team, at least in our case. Other factors could include procuring equipment.

So either way you'll have it.
