|
|
Hello:
I am using a Kyocera KPC650 card.
To save power, I power off the card when I am using my laptop but do not need to be on the internet.
Problem is if my laptop goes to standby and then I bring it out of standby, the card powers on automatically. i.e. regardless of the state of the card when the laptop went to standby. It is a pain to have to power off manually everytime this happens.
Is there a way I can prevent the card from automatically coming ON everytime I bring the laptop out of standby?
thanks. |

Under preferences/options, deselect "Run VZAcess Manager at startup". That should give you complete control of when it runs. _________________ Dell M1210 5700 |

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately, that does not solve this issue.
I think this is probably one of those "minor" annoyances in the view of the creators of this software/hardware.
I'm concluding that there is no way I can get rid of this "problem". |

Most likely, you will not be able to get rid of this "problem". When the laptop comes our of Hibernation it is going to power on the PC Slot if there is a card in there - and that is what is happening. Your best bet, might be to power it down and remove it when you want to conserve battery and do not need internet access. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I can see three solutions:
1) Send a request to the developers of vzaccess to store the deactivation state of the card across suspend/restore cycles. It's probably easy for them to implement, but getting it into the release cycle is the difficult part.
2) Remove the card safely before suspending (i suspect you're more worried about unattended suspends/hibernation?).
3) Find out if vzaccess is scriptable and, if so, script it.
4) Write or obtain a VB app that a) keeps track of the enable/disable state b) uses sendkeys to enable/disable the card in vzaccess manager and c) can detect suspend/resume cycles using sysinfo or other means to trigger the sendkeys events.
Google saves the day. Here's a program that will perform certain tasks on suspend or resume. One could throw some additional logic (bring application forward, sendkeys, hotkey detection for toggling the card status) into it to make it match #4, I think:

Just some ideas.
