|
|
I need to put my broadband card upstairs (near an antenna on the roof), but my computer is in the basement.
As I see it, I can buy an EVDO router OR I can build a cheap PC (running Win2k server) and use it as a router.
The PC plan would make it easier to manage the broadband card (monitor signal, update firmware, etc.).
Is there a downside? i.e. what are the advantages of the router?
Thanks in advance,
Shorty |

Advantages of the router:
Smaller.
Lower power.
Possibly less issues than a Windows PC running ICS
Likely better firewall protection
Looks cool.
Advantages of PC:
Possibly lower cost (if you have spare parts already)
Can do other stuff with it. (file server, print server, media server, etc.)
Possibly less issues than a router (or certain routers).
Other advantages you already mentioned
