Hi, I have just bought a YX500-PCS repeater/amplifier. It is working well, for it has brought my signal from a constant -104 to a more usable -87. However, I would like a little stronger of a signal. I was wondering if it would be safe to eliminate the base unit antenna and simply connect my Merlin S720 directly to it.

I would be very cautious in doing that. There was a member who connected a Digital Antenna DA4000SBR directly to a data card a year or so ago with success. You may want to look at replacing the interior and exterior antennas with the optional high gain yagi and interior panel antennas for better gain or mount the rooftop antenna in a higher location.

The Wireless Extenders unit uses a 75 Ohm cable from the repeater to the rooftop mounted antenna and a 50 Ohm inside antenna so make sure you use only the Wireless Extender optional upgrade. If you elect to try the direct connection solution, you will need an adapter to go from TNC female on the repeater to the card adapter that you purchase.
