Using XP, HP Pavilion dv9000

Following the instructions from the two threads explaining how to set this up using ##GPS, U720 is using Com1, S & T isn't recognizing com1 as available, tried starting S & T with U720 unpluged, then plugging it in , still nothing. Confused

Is there any way to force the GPS to use Com 6 or 9, or to force S & T to recognize Com1?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The com port is set to whatever is available when you first install the card. I do sometimes see a conflict with Palm's hotsync manager if you have a Treo or Palm device. If so, try shutting off hotsync manager, then restart SCM.

When in ##GPS, after you 'start' the GPS, it should show which port is in use in that screen.

##GPS is quite flaky and not officially supported. Only the LBS services directly in SCM are officially supported.

I did figure out how to change the port in WinXP.

- Go to the WinXP Device Manager (right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Mgr)

- Under 'Ports', select the cards' GPS port.

- Right click to Properties

- Goto Port Settings tab and Advanced

- Com port should be changeable. Only select one that is available.

- Restart SCM and check for new port in ##GPS

Thanks for the reply...

The only things that come up under ports in the Device Mngr are the Novatel Diagnostics Port (COM6) and the Novatel Status Port (COM5).

I tried rebooting and using ##GPS before I opened Device Manager, ##GPS shows COM1, DM still doesn't show it. Crying or Very sad

i am having the same problem. Is there a reason why the GPS does not list itself under device manager? S&T does not see any GPS or com 1 for that matter.
