|
|
| Quote: | TEXAS -- Whether in the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio or Dallas/Fort Worth, Sprint customers in Texas can do more with wireless thanks to a faster mobile broadband network. With Sprint's newest (EV-DO Revision A) technology, along with a wide variety of devices, customers can check and send e-mail with large file attachments, download music and access robust location-based solutions.
Sprint took a big step forward this month by upgrading its network in more than two dozen markets across the country, including cities throughout Texas including Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston, Temple/Killeen, Victoria, Waco and surrounding cities and suburbs. Sprint now reaches more than 193 million people in more than 9,600 cities and covers 880 airports with its faster mobile broadband technology (EV-DO Rev. A) and is on track to upgrade the vast majority of its mobile broadband network to the faster technology by year-end.
"Customers in many cities throughout Texas can experience the nation's largest mobile broadband network in more places with faster speeds than ever before, and we aren't finished improving the customer experience," said Mike Karageorge, area vice president for Sprint. "This year, Sprint is continuing investments to enhance its powerful networks and expand mobile broadband coverage across the nation. That's on top of the more than $234 million that Sprint spent in Texas in 2006. Sprint is committed to letting our customers do more with wireless."
On average, customers can experience significantly faster upload speeds of 350-500 Kbps (compared with 50-70 Kbps on current EV-DO networks) and download speeds of 600 Kbps-1.4 Mbps (from 400-700 Kbps.) on the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network. To compare these Rev. A speeds against the speed of their current connection, Internet users can visit www.sprint.com/speedtest.
In December 2006, Sprint's upgraded mobile broadband network was awarded the coveted PC Magazine Editor's Choice Award selected by a panel of PC Magazine editors, and leading industry experts.
The upgraded Sprint Mobile Broadband Network is now available in the following Texas cities:

| Thanks for the official announcement, Alex. Man, they really turned on the entire state within weeks. I didn't know it was quite so extensive. Even though we knew about most of this, it's great to see it made official. |

Now, if I can just get my EX720 to downlload speeds as fast as they were before they released Rev A in Dallas.
Before they turned on the Rev A I was getting 800-1400 down consistently. Since the announcement of Rev A my speed has dropped to a consistent 400-600.
The upload speeds are significantly faster though. |

Glad to hear that San Antonio is Rev A - finally! Kinda funny how this announcement came on the same day I ordered my new Rev A card, yet I hadn't even seen it yet. I just received my S720 and KR1 from 3GStore yesterday, and I am very pleased with the new higher speeds. I had originally tried a U720 about 3-4 months ago, and the speeds here were awful, no better than just tethering my PPC-6700.
With my new setup, I am this close to cancelling my home broadband and leaving my KR1 on in my car most of the time. I have already tried, I can get a great signal from my office and my apartment from the KR1 out in the parking lots. |

I'm on the SouthSide of San Antonio and have never seen Rev A signals. I had to put a directional antenna on a 25 ft pole just to get EVDO. Nobody (I mean not a single company) has any plans to put any type of broadband out here. By the way, I'm only 5 miles from the new Toyota plant.
I sure wish the maps would show me where the existing towers are located so I could point my antenna better.
Lost on the SouthSide |

Someone needs to shove a COMPLETE map o' Texas in front of Sprint. The ENTIRE LEFT SIDE of the state is NOT affected by their 'Texas Coverage'.
DFW/Houston/Austin/San Antone ain't all there is to Tex-ass.
Really chaps my butt - might as well have fallen off the planet, trying to get Sprint to cover 'the rest' of Texas... |

| Rockport has Rev A, it's a bit rocky, but viable for folks that can't get service out of The Evil Empires. On further out west, Corpus Christi has good coverage with excellent averages. But on our further west into the Rio Grande Valley, past Alice it goes to 1xRTT and downhill mighty fast. One major center where they could make a killing would be the major trade port of Laredo. That place is absolutely booming off the scales with growth and potential profits. |
