I was wondering if any one has ever used a data card with a PDA in any fashion. If the question sounds naive - apologies in advance - I have never held a PDA in my hand all my life - only read about them and seen their documentation. It seemed to me as if they dont have any PCMCIA slots and so I wondered if there would be any alternative way of doing so.

I know there are smartphones that can help you get to Internet - but what if I dont want to pay for another data scheme but want to use same air card for both my laptop and a PDA [that I [plan to buy - hence this question].

Some (like the Pocket PC) have an external "cradle" that will accept an AirCard. Since it was kind of clumsy, most vendors are moving away from that, and embedding the modules in the PDA.

You dismissed Smart Phones as not an option, but it may be your best option. The Samsung SCH-i730 is in effect, a PocketPC with an EV-DO card inside it. Instead of pulling out the "EV-DO Card" inside the i730 (which you cannot), just connect your i730 to your laptop with a USB cable. Now you have EV-DO data speed on your laptop, but you are only using one account. This site documents how to do this.
