I recently purchased my first home and it was in need of some serious renovations. It was built in the time of disco and bellbottoms and hadn't been changed much since. Over the last two weeks I've been working on the place and occasionally needing to connect to the internet to download appliance manuals or spec sheets. I set up a Linksys WRT54G3G-ST with a Novatel S720 and stuck it in a high-signal area of the house. By using the wifi connection on my thinkpad I was able to use the notebook anywhere while taking advantage of the best signal opportunities on the property.

Speeds are good, reliability is good. I'm thinking about delaying my landline installations for a while to see how long I can last using just Sprint as my ISP...

I currently don't have a landline for my phone or my internet. I use my cell phone and an S720 together with a Linksys router and Wilson antenna to provide both internet and phone service through Sprint. $112 a month and I can take the card with me to work as well. Not to bad IMHO.

Minor update:

Its been 4 weeks now its been a good experience. Browsing speeds are great (for wireless) and the connection is reliable. I finally got around to plugging in my Vonage box (Cisco ATA-186) and did a little testing. Call quality was good and the other end didn't report any issues.

This past weekend I wall-mounted the router in a hallway closet. That thing has some seriously bright LEDs. When I get up in the middle of the night I see blue and green light spilling out under the door. Its kind of funny when I see it, but it reminds me that the Vonage box is constantly phoning-home. I don't know how that jives with the Sprint ToS...
