|
|
I'm down in LA by the airport (LAX) and using my Verizon "CDMA PC 5220" card. It has the latest PRL's 50363, but the signal strength indication seems to vary weirdly. I have a booster-antenna.com external antenna and haven't touched it all day.
This afternoon around 4PM it showed 2 bars unlogged in, both 1xRTT and EVDO possible, but would only login to 1xRTT. Four hours later, same signal strength, but logged into EVDO (shown by EVDO not greyed out in menu after login). Internet speed test of 500 kbps down. Two hours later, NO bars of strength, still connects EVDO, but only 200 kbps download. Now 30 minutes or so later it's back to two bars and 500 kbps.
During all this a regular Verizon cell phone a few feet away with antenna retracted has always shown max 4 bars of strength.
Obviously, the number of signal strength bars seems to be a function of both RF signal strength AND available channel capacity. This is annoying because it makes optimizing antenna location and placement quite difficult.

I am in the small community of Playa Del Rey, about 1/4 mile from the beach and 1/4 mile from waterway separating Playa Del Rey from Marina Del Rey. Or, to be exact, at the intersection of Vista Del Mar and 66th Ave.
Hope that helps. ZIP is 90293. |
