well I haven't been able to try the mobile broadband with it.. but if you think about it the router with OpenWrt would use the card just like any Linux computer would use the card.. so yes, the upload issue would be solved (i'm guessing that its not a hardware limitation).
We just need some Linux people to work on this (I'm not one). Basically at this state, the cardbus hardware is supported, we only need someone to write up the correct scripts to connect to the Sprint/Verizon network.
So if there are any linux-junkies browsing this thread, maybe you could help us out. This thread (http:\\forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=3276&p=6) talks about people using the router to connect to UTMS networks. Also, this thread (http:\\samat.org/weblog/20070128-sprints-evdo-mobile-broadband-on-ubuntu-linux.html) talks about connecting to the sprint networks on a linux box. Since OpenWrt is linux, the setup would be very similar.
edit: the card that I have is the PX-500. I found a good guide for using the PX-500 with Linux on this website: http:\\www.sagrad.com/info/EVDO/. When I get the time, I'll try using these scripts with a little bit of modification. |

OpenWRT for this router would be awesome.
But I will stay on the sidelines rather than turn my $200 router into a $40 one.
Cardbus support would be great. |

yeah I would like to do the same.. its too bad that nobody else is taking the initiative to get this working.
someday soon though I will gain the courage again to load up openwrt and give the cardbus another shot. It definitely is possible, I'm just not exactly sure how. I might have to compile some things into the openwrt firmware for cardbus.. but I'm hoping that it isn't necessary.
I don't think most people realize that openwrt allows the router to do anything thats technically possible with the hardware it has. I'm sure that people will flock to openwrt once everything works, and there is a compiled firmware thats ready to run without adding packages, etc.
I'm still looking into getting this working, but it sure would be nice to have some help. |

| I know that if it resolves the upload speed issue, I'll give it a shot; who knows when Linksys will come out with firmware that fixes the problem. |

This is a great thread and we love getting products to do things they don't do well or hacking products.
However, I am moving this thread to the "Developer & Technical" thread.
I don't want people who are just finding these forums to think you have to do all this "programming stuff" to use your router. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Well, I haven't had much time to work on this.. but I have my wrt54g3g-st connected to the internet right now with OpenWRT.
I have compiled an image with X-Wrt, a usbserial patch (no acm support), and scripts to control the LED's and the connect/disconnect button.
I'm still working out a few flaws, but I'm getting really close to uploading a compiled firmware on the net.
I'm thinking about integrating a Mobile Broadband router page, complete with the actual signal strength readings and the network (evdo, rtt). I've sniffed out the commands that the card uses to report these statistics (from the Windows connection manager). Really, I would like to reformat the whole X-Wrt web interface to something a bit more simplified, yet with retaining all of its features. |

| Admin, could you please delete this thread? It's old and it might cause confusion with the new thread. |
