| Does anyone know if the built in EVDO modem in the oqo Model 2 is Rev. 0 or Rev. A. I've read conflicting information on this and can't find it on the oqo web page. |

| This is the first device I've seen that allows one to choose between Sprint or Verizon for built-in EVDO. |

BTW, if anyone purchases this device and requires activation, give us a call, we can activate it for you.

Michael,
Has any firmware update come out to make this rev A or is that not even possible with this device? I am thinking of switching from my UX to this device because of the sprint service... _________________ SonyTX17P&UX90S |

The OQO is now available with EV-DO Rev. A |

|
|
I have had Alltel EV-DO for about 5 years and it has been good to me; I really don't want to change carriers. I just purchased the OQO 02 with the Verizon EV-DO option. I did this because when I have been roaming on trips with my Alltel card, sometimes I noticed it was roaming on Verizon, but I never observed it roaming on Sprint -- therefore I thought my chances of getting it to work with my existing Alltel account might be slightly better if I chose the Verizon flavor of OQO, instead of Sprint.
I see no reason whatsoever that it should not work on Alltel, unless the firmware is rigged to screw customers out of their right to choose their carrier, like Apple disgusting behavior with the iPhone...
After several aggravating days wrestling with it, during which time I had gotten the QuickLink software to indicate "activation successful" -- but then was still unable to connect (it said "bad username or password")... I had Alltel sell me a Franklin CDU-550 USB EV-DO card, just so that I could get on with my work, but having that big piece of junk hanging out of my OQO is really disgusting when I think about having paid a lot of money for built in EV-DO.
This unit has the Novatel Expedite EV620 minipci card in it; there are several stories online about how someone successfully changed the EV-DO card in it for an HSDPA card...
Has anyone got any experience with this, i.e. either changing the card's firmware (if that is the problem), the PRL file, or changing the whole card?
Also I had read another article where someone needed to get a minipci card, and they were told to get a U720 from Sprint and take it apart, because it is really a minipci card inside a shell with a USB connector. I assume, however, that unit is locked into Sprint.
Does anyone know if the Franklin CDU-550 might also have a minipci card inside -- before I void its warranty by taking it apart myself? The Frankline is the only USB EV-DO card that Alltel offers.
I got a copy of Alltel's PRL file from one of their agents, and I managed to put it into the Novatel card, thinking that would be the last piece of the puzzle. However, now the card seems to be even further from working than before... i.e. before the card would talk to the network and go through most steps to authenticate, but fail at the final step -- now it does not seem to begin communicating at all.
In case I decide to bite the bullet and just get a Verizon account rather that rip the unit all apart in order to replace its card, if anyone has a recent Verizon PRL list that would be the same or similar one that was originally stored in the card, please email it to me because I would need to put the card back to its original state. Thanks for any help anyone can give.
Mike

| I have been thinking of getting an OQO and am wondering if I choose to get the embedded card if I will have to pay more through Sprint. I will soon be ordering a card for my laptop and want to have access on both. Does anyone know? |

Your one device for one plan. Can't be any other way. You'd have to have 2 accounts and pay for both of them. Something about the FCC... I think its bullshit they just want more money, dunno.
Taken from their website:

wireless & networking
* Mobile broadband (optional): Integrated EV-DO Rev. A modem
* Wireless LAN: Atheros tri-mode 802.11a/b/g with diversity
* Bluetooth technology: Integrated Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
* Ethernet protocol: VGA/Ethernet adapter (included)

side note, as expensive as that thing is I'd expect wireless N...
Other then price that thing looks really sweet. If someone gets one with Vista I'd be interested to see how it handles it (my guess not well).

ports
* audio jack: 3.5mm x 1 line out/line in
* video out: HDMI, VGA/Ethernet adapter (included), HDMI-DVI adapter available
* 1 docking/power connector
* 1 USB 2.0 compliant port

You could use your USB modem on that then I'm guessing... That would avoid paying for two accounts... But that seems like it wouldn't work out so well.. I'd be afraid of my modem getting damaged sticking out of something like that. |
