Wondering if anybody else is having a similar problem -

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 600m. After installing the Novatel V620, it has been nothing but a headache. The computer keeps freezing, anytime from w/in a few seconds of booting up, up to a 1/2 hour later. Even after using Dell's PC Restore, w/o the V620 installed, I am still having this problem. Anybody have any ideas on what to do? Is this an isolated incident, or are there other Dell Inspiron owners w/ the same problem?

I have the V620 installed on three different Dell computers with no problems. You say you have the problem even without the SW installed? It may be isolated to your machine.

It sounds very much like the video driver, have you checked with both Dell and the manufacturer for the latest drivers?

My friend tried to use my V620 -- he either has a Dell 600 or 6000, it's something in the "6" series -- anyway, there is a known issue with these Dell laptops, the motherboard is incompatible. You have to replace the motherboard. Do a search on google for your laptop and the V620.

This page has a lot of laptops listed:

http://www.evdoinfo.com/Tips/PC_5220/Sierra_Wireless_PC5220_%10_AC580_Compatibility_Issues_20050527293/

Many that have motherboard problems are related to not enough power to the PCMCIA cards (so just because the page is labeled 5220/AC580 problems - the problems may be with other EVDO cards as well).

I've gotten the 600m to work normally for now (still keeping the fingers crossed). I did a PC Restore, then installed an updated driver for the O2 Micro SmartCardBus Controller (downloaded from Dell's website), and installed the updated driver for the V620 (from Verizon's website). So far, so good.
