Hmm... well i've tested my gameplay with 1xrtt and I couldn't move around.. my ping times hovered around 700-1000 on average with spikes to 5000.
You sound like me, 15 different internet connections and none of em work for what you want em for. The only option I see you having left is to try a tunneling program like Ping-Fu. It has a 2 day free trial I think, or it did just to test things out.
Your problem exists between you and the cell phone tower, then from the cell phone tower through their equipment, firewalls, etc. Your vpn still has to travel through all that, so no benefit connecting to all those T1s.
It would be nice if you could benefit from all those T1s, but impossible if your home connection is slow. Is there no option to upgrade from 1xrtt? Work really far away? i've a friend or two that have connected radio devices to their offices from home with amazing results (up to 15 miles) but those are pricey and require line of sight ($300-1000).
I think i'm out of options here. I can only suggest ping-fu at this point, and hope they bring EVDO to your area. |
The reason I tried to VPN to the office is to bypass what I read was Alltel taking my WOW traffic and de-prioritizing it.
Yes, I have horrid connection.. I despise having these issues so much. I will give Ping-FU a shot and see if I can benefit from it.
I still do not understand why SWG ran so well, and ping times were so good, and I don't understand why dialup can keep me around decent ping times, but yet my 1x connection cannot even keep me around 500ms.
Unless they ARE de-prioritizing my wow traffic, in which case hopefully I can use PING-FU and move all wow traffic through port 80.
We'll see.
**EDIT** Btw, my signal stregnth usually reports around 60-70% according to alltel's software. |

well currently taking a hiatus from WoW and don't need it at the moment. But as of a month ago I prayed to it everyday for my wonderful latency speeds.
I got a bit tired of my resto druid, I'm feeling the itch again however and am thinking of starting a new alt (curse alting). |

I was real lucky to discover a tower right next to my house.. well about 1 mile away. It's EVDO *grins* so much better than wildblue / directtv internet (had both). I've also had two local companies do point to point for me, but those also suffered extreme packet loss.
I've been around the block for places without dsl / cable, but i'm happy now. Can't wait to see what they make next. |

| Is there any good free tunneling soft ware you could use for this, or are you pretty much stuck with pingfu? |

| there are a ton of tunnelers out there, just do a search for http tunneler. The problem with the free ones is they are slow and won't provide a quick connection.. most of the time.. if you prove me wrong post it here! |

Another WoW user here, using the 595U with no problems really for the last 2-3 months, would like to try out the tunneling program though. Hopefully help with consistency, gotta hate the latency ramping up the longer you play crap.
However the problem i'm having the last 2 days is the ONLY connection I can get now is 1xRTT, usually always get EVDO Revision connex's until the last 2 days, any idea what the heck might be going on? |

|

I get this problem from time to time myself.. The two reason's i've found is:
1. I didn't pay my bill (it's not automatic for me and I only get rtt sometimes when they cut me off)
2. They are upgrading the EVDO to rev A or possibly beyond in your area.
best of luck! |

| I'm sure you have tried this, but I set mine to EVDO only so it doesn't switch on me. |

| Question: Doesn't turning off your firewall leave your computer vulnerable to the bad guys? |

If I ever turn off a firewall that's directly connected to the internet, I make sure it has all the microsoft updates and I don't leave it off for long (few seconds while I test something).
As a rule, don't disable it unless your behind a router or something. |
