Thanks for the post Michael,
makes me wonder if this should have been a red flag to begin with, between linksys and sprint.
I also made a post at http://www.evdoforums.com/thread4406.html about the MB6800, but it didn't show up in the list and the most recent updated list.
I was curious as too vpn and the 6000 and 6800.
Thanks
Jim |

I hope when sprint and linksys meet they will also work on the 'upload issue'. Apparently there Mobile router cuts upload by 50+% and I hope they fix it quickly or I believe it will hurt their sales. I believe competition for Mobile routers will get tighter......
Thanks for starting this thread...... |

| According to some, this "Upload Issue" isn't even a reported issue to Linksys. |

yes, and this puzzles me; there have been many users reporting the same exact thing, but it nearly always gets blamed on the customer for having an incorrect MTU, here, check out this BS reply from Linksys:
| Linksys wrote: | Hi Fox,
Thank you for contacting Linksys Technical Support.
The firmware for the US variant of the WRT54G3G-ST is not available yet. We do not know when will that be made available. However, all future uploads will be posted on our US website. On the other hand, the only thing available is our firmware for the UK variant of the WRT54G3G.
The only thing that I can possibly suggest is to identify the suitable MTU for your router.
To find the proper MTU Size, you’ll have to do a special ping of the destination you’re trying to go to. A destination could be another computer, or a URL.
1. Click on the Start button, then select the Run option.
2. In the “Open” field type in command (If you’re using Windows 2K/NT/XP use CMD instead).
3. Once the window opens, you’ll need to do a special ping. It should be formatted:
ping [url] [-f] [-l] [MTU value] [Enter] an example would be:
ping yahoo.com –f –l 1472 <result = fragmented packet>
ping yahoo.com –f –l 1462 <result = fragmented packet>
ping yahoo.com –f –l 1452 <result = reply>
You should always start at 1472 and work your way down by 10 each time. Once you get a reply, go up by 2 until you get a fragmented packet. Take that value and add 28 to the value to account for the various TCP/IP headers. For example, lets say that 1452 was the proper value, the actual MTU size would be 1480, which is the optimum for the network we’re working with.
4. Once you’ve found the optimum MTU size open up your browser, usually Internet Explorer, which is located on your desktop (Or on the Start menu in Windows XP).
5. Once Internet Explorer has opened input http://192.168.1.1/Filters.htm into the “Address” bar.
6. You will be prompted for a User Name and Password. Leave the User Name blank and input admin as the password then click OK.
7. Once you’ve done this you should find your self on the Filters tab. Scroll down to the bottom and look for “MTU”. Enable the option and input the optimum value you got earlier. So for our example this would be 1480. After that value has been inputted click Apply then Continue and you’re done.
NOTE: If you don’t have a “MTU” option please goto http://www.linksys.com/download and select the model number of the router you have and the OS you’re using. Then click on “Firmware” and follow the upgrade instructions.
We would love to hear from you again. Any feedback from your end is very much welcome.
Thank you for choosing Linksys.
Sincerely,
Ian

Despite me telling him it was not an MTU issue, he totally ignored what I said....Also, I have no idea where he gets the "there isn't any Firmware for the US version" either...yet more BS.
Worst of all is the fact Sprint passes this problem to Linksys, and Linksys passes it to Sprint/ignores it completely/blames it on the customer. |

I give it another ..2 weeks then ... I hate to say it, but I'm going to have to write Linksys off as a viable option in the future for ANY router. I hate to put a knock on Cisco..but..the total lack of support AND communication..has been terrible. Let's totally throw this into prospective... is there ANY reason to believe that if it was another Linksys router, they would fix it??? Did I contact Sprint about this my foot..who's NAME is on the router???? The side of the router does not say SPRINT, total cop-out. Why is this even showing up on Linksys's web site?
Anyone else want to pile on..or say something I didn't say?? Please do. |

Seems to be standard practice to answer your concerns with any old answer that uses some of the same words as the question, whether it actually answers the question or not.
I'm doing the same go-round with my banks on-line banking folks. I asked a question about why the data is not being displayed back to me in the same format I enter it in. Specifically why when I enter the ZIP+4 in standard format (5 digits, a dash, 4 digits) it is displayed back to me as 9 digits without a dash and why when I only enter the 5 digit zip it then still displays 9 digits and where is this behaviour documented and it is bad from a usability standpoint, and the second question was why when I enter a new payee do I have to log out and log back in before that payee shows up in the payee list. The answer to the first question was a very wordy version of "because that's the way it is". The answer to the second question was "to enter a new payee, select Add New Payee and enter the payee details" and nothing about why the new payee doesn't show up until I log out and log back in. Useless. Totally, utterly, useless. And totally clueless to boot.
Thank god we live in what is becoming more and more a service economy, otherwise we might actually get good service.
But I digress;-). |

Not a good thing; when 85% of the economy is service, 2% of the economy is agricultural, and 13% is manufacturing...and well, you look at all the debt we're in, and the fact that inflation is rampant...(and we have a fiat based money system), things just aren't looking good. :X
Anyway, I've had great experience using Linksys routers; they've been really reliable for me; however, a networking friend of mine also agrees that while their product is great, and their customer service, very responsive; the techies behind the customer services just don't know much of anything.

I have a Linksys Cable/DSL Router and a Linksys Print Server. Had 'em for probably 10 years. Never had any problems with either of them. The print server is no longer in service as all my current set of printers have ethernet interfaces already, but it used to drive an HP LaserJet 4 and an Epson inkjet.
I have several friends that have the same or similar Linksys equipment and they've never had any problems either.
Have yet to buy anything since Cisco bought them, so have no recent experience. |

| I haven't had any problem..but this is my concern..there is a problem..and they haven't been any help in getting it resolved. I've had linksys product before and haven't noticed any problems, but my concern is..once the product is out..how much are they will to fix a problem that many people are having, that very much concerns me as a consumer. |

Got a call today from LinkSys / Cisco...
Looks like they are moving in the right direction related to this topic. I should be able to post some news on the support issues soon.
If you got your LinkSys WRT54G3G-ST from 3Gstore.com AND it is DOA or you need it replaced, you can contact support at 3Gstore.com and we can get get an early jump on this news and give you a hand to get it replaced directly from LinkSys.
More info coming soon... _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |
