I'm stuck between a rock in a hard place.

I want to get EVDO from Alltel.

but I found this 3rd party company who sells cellphones, data cards along with plans for everyone from sprint to verizon to tmobile.

they are claiming I can get the Kyrocera KPC650 for FREE.. when signing up for a 2 yr agreement for unlimited data with alltel for 59.99 a month.

sounds like a darn good deal, if its legit.

but alltel.. says that 79.99 is the cheapest it gets without a voice plan.. and the card will cost me 100.00 with a 50.00 rebate.

sound fishy? or Legit?

There may be hidden fees like an activation fee, etc. You'll have to read the fine print of whatever contract you're asked to sign before actually committing yourself.

But, your saying that if the fine print.. reads off correctly.. the company "should" in theory have to back up their claims and follow through..

if so I can grab the Franklin USB modem for 50 bucks after rebates..

Isn't the Franklin USB modem on Rev 0 and a bit out of date compared to other products like the U720?

It depends on the company. I know of some that say LOTS of stuff on their web site and don't follow through.

Normal conditions apply, check the better business bureaus, Google is your friend.

Also, I have seen many other companies, play with "rebates". One company, was giving away free EVDO cards "after rebates". If you read the fine print on the "rebate", it stated, it was coupon to be used on a "new phone". So, it wasn't a rebate at all.

Also, lets keep links and names of companies from showing up here.

The PC5750 is the latest technology, meaning it is a Rev. A device. The other two devices are the older Rev. 0 technology. Rev. A gives higher download and upload speeds with lower latency. So, with the 5750, you'll be future proofing your investment.

Azmyth, why mess around with unknowns? Go to 3-G store and get something you know will work...with a decent price. Why risk the hassles and potential bait-and-switch routines when you'll get all the support you need here? Confused

Azmyth can't go to 3gstore because he doesn't live in an area served by Sprint or Verizon EVDO. He has no other choice but to go to Alltel. The PC5750 is UPGRADEABLE to Rev A, not Rev A out of the box. Rev A isn't as big a deal if you're an Alltel customer though, as far as choosing an older device, because Alltel doesn't appear to be releasing Rev A any time soon. But, as was already stated, if it was me I'd get the PC5750 so I could upgrade it to Rev A if/when they ever DO go Rev A.

Azmyth, I'm real curious where you're getting the $79.00 per month price with no voice plan. Order the card online through Alltel's site and it's $59 per month no matter what. As far as I can tell there is no $79 price and no requirement to have a voice plan. I just went through the Alltel site like I was ordering a card to be sure.

You are one heck of a tire kicker!! Very Happy Very Happy You have your own thread dedicated to your venture. What does Nike say?

JUST DO IT!!!

(I'm just messing with ya!!)

The 5750 is Rev. A out of the box. The Sierra 595 needs an update before it's Rev. A capable.

The documentation that came with mine says otherwise. I don't have any way to check it though. Not sure if it's possible since there's no Alltel Rev A. I am in a Sprint Rev A area however but am unable to force the Alltel card to roam. I also have a U720 with Sprint and can't force it to roam on Alltel either. I think roaming doesn't work when either card is in it's native coverage.

Azmyth, I did just find a $79 rate on the website so I guess you are correct. Strange it was allowing me to order the card and choose the $59 rate while ago. I cleared my cache to be sure it didn't "remember" me too. Oh well . . . . You just need to switch your phones and all!!

I may regret it...

but, Because of the fact that I found 6 different reputable vendors all with the same deal, and VERY good reviews on the BBB and Bizrate. I went ahead and went with a card + plan deal they had going.

I am supposedly going to be paying 59.99 a month, no voice required. I had to pay 99.99 up front for the 5750, but am getting a 50.00 rebate (alltel had the same deal themselves as far as the price of the card goes) I saw no fine print stating anything other than the rebate was for the card itself and it only.

my card is slated to be here by fedex in 2 biz days.. so I should have it by Tuesday. Due to the fact that even if the 5750 is not Rev A right out of the box.. as long as its capable of being upgraded, I'm good. 99.99 is not bad for a card I won't have to replace when Rev A rolls out. The activation of the plan goes direct through alltel so I should still get the 15 day free trial, and the site itself has a 30 day money back guarantee the any of its equipment. It is also listed as one of "Cnet.com's premiere merchants", and I generally trust anything Cnet puts their label on.

I feel good about it right now. The site was very thought out, information was all right in front of me. I'm thinking it should be fine. If not, I will def. be complaining for false advertising. I saw no complaints about anything regarding their service plans on bizrate.. so it must be a jam up company.

I would have def. bought from 3gstore if they sold alltel. But, neither Verizon nor Sprint were available, and even if they were.. alltel would still be my top choice because the tower is 2 miles from me, and its truly unlimited. Which makes me wonder why you guys don't host any information for alltel. they have quite the area they cover now.. Maybe this thread will help the next alltel wanna be that comes along be able to make a decision faster than it took me to.

thanks again, and will let you all know my results next week.
