When tethering you alway see the "Connected at" bubble pop up. What is this? There's a thread on another forum that asked this better than I could and I thought some of you experts could help me understand this.

I guess I'm misunderstanding something: how are people getting speeds that exceed 1Mb/s when the DUN COM port maxes out at 921.6kb/s? Is there some kind of compression involved? Are you all using bluetooth or something? (The last Alltel rep I talked to said that the USB connection would yield significantly faster transmission speeds than bluetooth, so I'm kinda doubting this.) I figure I must be missing something.

You are indeed correct in thinking that it doesn't make sense.

I consistently connect at 230kbps (as reported by the "connected at..." bubble that pops up when I connect), and yet I usually get about 60KB/s throughput (60 x 8 = 480kbps), more than twice my connection speed. Either it's magic, or the 230 is just a bogus number that Windows pulled out of its rear port.

Compression? I wondered about that, but these speeds are on already compressed files like .zip, .mp3, and .mpg files, so while does use compression, it does not account for the difference we see.

USB1.1 = 12mbps, and USB2 is 480mbps, 1024x my actual throughput.

What is this all about?
