Ok, well, I think I may know why my speeds aren't the greatest; today, I hooked my computer directly up to my router, and was able to get 1000k down and about 400k up. However, with wireless, I could only get 600-700k down and 100-200k up.

Is this a known issue with the router? Do I need to change anything?

I know that the upload is a little flaky with this router, but...I didn't think the download was.

You might want to mention which router, card, etc.?

A little info goes a long way. Or I guess I could go search through your previous posts in other threads . . . . .but nah . . . I don't think I'll do that. Cool

There is another discussion going on about this issue already.

I have a case open with Linksys on this now, will probably be another week or 2 before I find anything out. It sounds like your having the same problems that many other have.

this is not what I'm experiencing; I already know of that problem, and was expecting that.

Anyway, I have the WRT54G3G-ST, BigDave; that's why I posted in the WRT54G3G-ST forums. Razz Anyway, my broadband card is a Novatel S720.

With my laptop (card inside the laptop) I can pull about 1100-1200k down and 500-600k up.

with the router and my laptop's linksys PCMCIA card, I can pull about 1100-1200k down and 200-300k up (again, I know upload is reduce).

but here's my major problem: on both of my PC's Linksys wireless cards, I can only pull about 600-800k down and push 100-200k up.

I tried hard-wiring, and this solved the problem, so it's not an issue with my PCs...and, liked I said earlier, my laptop's wireless card didn't do that.

Thus, it's an issue (I suspect) with the PCI cards; any ideas? (my wireless cards' drivers are out of date, so I installed the new drivers, which did nothing...so I reverted back to the old drivers, until this issue can be fixed).

Also, my router has the most up-to-date firmware.

edit:

wireless test results:

wired test results:

so, as you can easily see, I'm losing about 400k; enough to cause quite an alarm.

Sorry about that Fox. I just pulled it from the "Recent Forum Posts" links at the top and, being so used to doing that, I failed to look at the small print at the top. It's that small print that'll always get you.

Carry on . . . . Embarassed

That's ok, BigDave, I just had to get you on that one. Razz

Either way, this is basically one of two major problems left with my EVDO connection (the other being the upload issue, which is the router's problem).

Anyway, I e-mailed Linksys about the download problem, so we'll have to see what they say about it. I also e-mailed them about the upload issue; I figure the more people that note the upload issue, the more they're be convinced the router needs new firmware to resolve the problem.
