|
I found an old question with no answer on a years' old forum, and I can't find an answer anywhere online, and since I have been using the word (or phrase abbreviation) a lot in the last two days, I would like to know the "proper" pronunciation for EVDO. Thanks! javascript:emoticon(' ')

Well that depends a lot on how you pronounce "evolution", the "e" in "evdo". I generally pronounce it as "ehv-doe", but I have heard it also pronounced "eve-doe". Take your pick.
When I got my data card, I don't think the Sprint store droid even attempted to pronounce it as an acronym. |

EVDO is an acronym, and true geeks scoff at any layman who try to 'pronounce' an acronym, rather the say each letter separately.
Of course, not being a true geek myself (i rather consider myself a lazy man), I've won many a bet that I can find at least one acronym that every true geek is likely to have pronounced, rather than spelled out in a sentence.
If you ever find yourself in such a bet, pull out these two acronyms: POP (as in Post Office Protocol, used for email accounts) and WAP (as in Wireless Application Protocol, used by many PDA's for web browsing)
Any true geek who says they have never ever pronounced POP or WAP probably also spells out SCUBA when they go diving, too. |

No wonder its so hard to find out! That really helps.
Before you guys became the 3Gstore.com, how did you answer your phones? Was EVDO in the salutation?
Thanks for taking the time to answer. |
