This server is a low traffic government funded research facility, the Argonne National Laboratory and should be fairly accurate.

It thinks I'm on a cable/dsl modem. |

I know you are using the V620, do you have an external antenna for it? Any tweaks we should know about?
I didn't install the compression software, and wondering now if I should have.
I'm going to be in Tampa this week and looking forward to seeing what I can get there as far as speed. |

I'm using the TCPOptimizer that Michael linked to but I think you have to play with the settings to get optimal results for your area. I'm currently running RWIN at 128480, MTU at 1500 and Max connections at 20/40.
We're fortunate here in Dallas to have a very strong signal so I haven't felt the need for an external antenna and I don't use the Venturi compression software either. |

Youc an get a max of 15K/sec down with a peak of 25K/sec while uploading at 15K/sec with a peak of 18K/sec, I can get 15K/15K on NationalAccess also (stron-signal non-EVDO areaa). So Emule-ers, Voip-ers, BitTorrent-ers etc.. only really get better upload speed from a card upgrade (From Sieraa 555 to Novatel V620) and better ability to surf the web and email while maxxing out Emule/BitTorrent. Also, BroadBand Access can handle a heavier Connection Load (# simulatenous open connections) in Emule than either card in NationalAccess.
People with download speed problems need to be free of spyware and zombieware (they upload stuff) and that they have at least 3 bars.
With GetRight, with nothing uploading I get from 300-600K/sec. This is downloading huge TIFFs (many compressed) from the Hubble Space Telescope site or the NASA JPL PhotoGallery.
Bandwidth is ample for Star Wars Galaxies. My Ping Times run from 250ms to 500ms on the Bria Server. Full range peaks are 150 to 950. I would say Ping Time is about the same as 56K dial-up. BroadBandAccess Ping Times are slightly better than NationalAcess but I think its the card (Upgraded from Sierra 555 to Novatel V620) as opposed to the network.
NovaTel's card drivers are as buggy as sh*t when it comes to improper removal/shutdown. Hibernate or stand by with card in and forget to put back in before wakeup means re-installing the drivers to be able to connect again. Rebooting/shutdown, standby or hibernate and forgetting to disconnect first usually results in the need to re-install the drivers. Reinstallig the drivers is the V620.exe, not VZAccessManager (reinastalling that will run v620.exe in its process though). Sometimes after any reboot (but not hiber/standby), the card will need its drivers reinstalled to connect anyway even if you did remember to disconnect first. Once its connected though it doesn't glitch out at all untill you decide to remove the card or shutdown/hiber/standby the computer. |

Yes, I've found going into standby while connected is not to be experienced more than once. Disconnecting and then closing the lid causes no problems at all.
I never remove the card so I haven't had the reboot problem, in fact, as long as I disconnect, it is extremely stable. _________________ Dell M1210 5700 |
