|

Did you know there is another (smaller) EVDO provider in the US? ALLTEL. They do not have the coverage that Verizon or Sprint (will have), but keep on eye on them. We are keeping track of ALLTEL EVDO Coverage at EVDOinfo.com. As of July 2005, here are their current EVDO coverage maps.
Cleveland / Akron EVDO
Lansing, Michigan EVDO
Tampa Florida EVDO

Just an FYI. Little Rock (at least part of it anyway) has EVDO coverage. A few days ago the ALLTEL coverage map showed Little Rock as having Axcess Broadband coverage and then a day later, it was gone! I called our ALLTEL rep and asked him about it and he said that it was in fact available in Little Rock but not quite complete. I went ahead and ordered my Kyocera card and installed it and indeed I have EVDO coverage at my office here in West Little Rock as well as at my house in Benton (a suburb of LR 20 miles away). As of last night, download speeds were averaging 700K!
Any other central Arkansas EVDO users out there? |

jrhymes - you stumbled on a little-known fact...
If you sign up with ALLTEL for 1X using a Kyocera 650 card, you will automatically get the EVDO service in all the cities where it is being built, even where it is not "launched" yet. |

I live on Arch Street, a couple miles south of Baseline. Any idea as to if Alltel Axcess Broadbandreaches that far?
Right now I have to use dial-up w/satellite.
I was hoping a wireless plan would someday reach so I can get away from 600ms lag times.
I went to Alltel and didn't see any Axcess broadband, except for text messaging and such. What does it cost?
Thanks
Larry |

| I hear that EVDO is not ready in LR, but it will be soon. I'd check the retail stores there occasionally, ALLTEL is notoriously slow in updating their web site. |

Wow, that is great! Three company's are offering EVDO of some flavor and Cingular is pedaling fast
I wonder if there could ever be any roaming agreements between the three CDMA carriers that offer EVDO..... |

I attended a mobile wireless conference last month and the carriers mentioned that CDMA data roaming on 1xRTT will be technically capable possibly by end of this year and the option may be available early next year if legal agreements come through. It may be a while before they open up EVDO roaming... 1xRTT can now be thought of as a commodity but EVDO will be a focus product for a while. |

If you have EVDO with either Verizon or ALLTEL, you CAN roam - it just drops to 1X when you are on the other Carrier's network. SO - it makes sense that they would be working on the full EVDO part... |

Did you actually get access? I googled for it and found they do have plans for Tucson...

You'd think since Sprint is already in Tucson and they have EVDO roaming agreements, Alltel would put EVDO in areas Sprint is not already in. But in the end you'll get the best of both.
Anyone find a way to force Sprint data roaming on Alltel EVDO devices? |
