Or another way to look at it.

You won't have to pay a penalty, BUT you only get the big discounts when you sign up for new service with a 2 year contract. So, you would have to purchase the device at retail and then swap it onto your existing Sprint account.

Normally, the cost for replacing a broken/lost device OR upgrading is a shock to many people. The device is $0 - $100 when you first "buy" it (signing up for a new contract), BUT, if you need to purchase it to replace or upgrade, it can be $200 - $330. The carriers obviously, take a loss on the device when you sign up for a new contract and then they "make it up" over the contract.

Couldn't a person just cancel his current data card pay the cancelation fee and then purchase a new one with the discounts? It looks like it may be cheaper doing it that way.

I know it shouldn't make a diffence, but I have tried the u720 and the 595U and the 595U gave better speeds for me. But I wonder how this new device will perform.

Also, Do you think it will work with a KR-1 evdo router?

I wonder if it the Mac OS X connection manager is available for download and can be used with other devices.

No, it doesn't work with the KR1, only the MB6800 (with new firmware).

The native Mac OS X connection manager only works with the CDU-680 (not others).

I found the 595U to work better then the U720 as well.

Hey Michael, since you are shipping the new Franklin, do you have your speed results vs the 595U and 720 yet??

Thanks!

Speed/Throughput is most often a question of signal and tower load, and rarely (if ever) is it the brand or model of device.

With the un-scientific nature of speeds tests the way they are, there has never been any concrete evidence that one model of evdo device is consistently and repeatedly faster than another similar device.

we know you WANT there to be, and that you want us to tell you what it is, and if we could, we would stick our necks out there and say so.

but there is no repeatable evidence of any device being capable of consistently faster throughput than any other device.

check the forums for yourself. with over 10,000 members... one person's fast device, is another person's dog.

has the CDU680 shown us same or better top speeds as other USB devices? yes, it has. does it mean its consistently/repeatedly faster? nope, because speed tests are inconsistent from test to test, regardless of device.

Well you could just do like I did.

Buddy asked me about wireless broadband...Told him to buy the Franklin...Told him it was the latest and greatest...Second place is way, and I mean way back there.

LOL...So he ordered one...I must comment on the way you guys do business...Do not know if he talked to you guys on the phone or did it over the internet...But he ordered it and got shipping confirmation all in one shot.

Now I get to bug you guys at tech support setting it up !!!!

Just kidding...Just the 64mb memory is worth the price of admission IMHO.

One thing for sure...If you want to know anything EVDO this is the place to go to...And if you need some help...Well I think this forum speaks for itself.

I am sure Michael and Company are thrashing away to get the review up "early this week"

Sure like getting someone else to buy one and getting to have first hand experience with it before buying.

And I will be buying from 3Gstore.com...Least I could do all things considered.

Now where is the U727 or the latest and greatest from Sprint ???

Very Happy

It is taking a bit longer to get the full review written. It is almost completed and I can promise it will be published by tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
