^Implies that neither really has the interest. Sprint's going for WiMAX and planning EVDO just for phones down the road. Phones probably don't need >2Mbps in most cases and have even less need for more upload boost. And there will be dual WiMAX/EVDO phones/cards for power users.
Verizon wants to see customer demand for higher speeds before making a move, according to article. Verizon also probably wants to see ROI on existing EVDO before spending megabucks on upgrades that only power users would seek.
