EVDO Maps is great but I'm wondering why, with the huge nationwide footprint Alltel has, they aren't included on EVDOMaps.com? Seems it would give a much clearer picture of the coverage available nationwide especially considering their EVDO roaming agreement with Sprint. Just curious.

I'm guessing because this site doesn't sell Alltel service, only Sprint and Verizon. But Alltel's additional coverage is a selling point for Sprint, so might be worth adding.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. The same question has been raised on several occasions but is always ignored so I suppose that must be it. Confused Definitely seems to be a selling point for Sprint if you ask me. But then nobody did so . . . . . . . your answer really makes sense too. (That seems to happen far too often xenophon!) Anyway, what kind of business would they have if they were pointing people to services they don't sell. Would not be a real bright move!

It works but not very well. At least not in Florence, SC. I have both Alltel DO and Sprint DO. I have the Alltel on 15 day test drive. I have been using Sprint for several months.

Florence has ONLY Alltel EVDO at this point. As far as I can tell Sprint has few if any towers in the area. I can connect to Alltel EVDO using my Sprint s720 but the ping times are double(800ms) and the speeds are far worse than using the Alltel card. I have tested this fully in Florence, SC. I have also tested somewhat in Columbia, SC with the very same results. Basically the connections are EVDO using Sprint to roam to Alltel but the speeds sometimes are as low as 100K vs an Alltel speed of 1500K at the very same time and place.

Are you sure you're connected with EVDO and not 1xRTT? Latency and speed is in-line with 1xRTT.

I have them both as well and am unable to find out how well they work since I live in an area with strong local signals for both and have not been out of town since the roaming was actually enabled. Anybody have any ideas how to force the Sprint U720 card to roam on Alltel in a Sprint native area? Or can it be done at all? I've tried every possible combination in the SCM settings including but not limited to EVDO only and Roaming only. Can only connect to the Sprint signal.

Having better evdomaps for Alltel would be cool as the Alltel coverage map seriously sucks. I was just referring to it to see coverage for a trip and sure do miss the street level maps for Sprint.

That is a fact. Their maps truly suck. Not really worth looking at.

Ditto. I thought Alltell had EVDO near my new home but maybe not. I am assuming that the do since Sprint and Verizon pretty much has EVDO wherever Voice coverage is available with a few exceptions.

I guess I just got to go to a store.

I'd like to see Alltel added to EVDO Maps too.

~25 miles north of Omaha, NE I'm getting 994Kb/s down and 99Kb/s up with ~200ms latency with my PC connected to my Alltel PPC-6800 via the USB cradle. I added my results with the carrier set to Verizon, but noted that it is actually Alltel...
