This thread will discuss Verizon and Sprint EVDO Card (PCMCIA, Expresscard and USB) compatibility with 64bit Vista. We already have a thread going about 32 bit Vista and EVDO Cards.

We will be asking the manufacturers this question at the CTIA show this week.

As of March 24, 2007, Verizon and Sprint (or Novatel, Sierra Wireless, Kyocera, Pantech) DO NOT offer drivers for Vista 64 bit.

PLEASE note, this is a success only thread, do not post saying it does not work, we already know that. Posts to this thread indicating failures or how you tried and couldn't get it working, will be deleted. Please post ONLY success with Vista 64 bit and any Sprint or Verizon EV-DO card.

Just a quick update, I am at the CTIA Wireless Show this week and this is one of the questions I will be asking the carriers and manufacturers. Stay tuned...

New Verizon drivers have been posted here:
vzam.net

From the listing, PC 5750, USB720, and V740 have been updated to be Vista64 compatible.

I got the USB720 to work, but there were some glitches in the setup, possibly because I had previously tried to install the old 32-bit only version of the software. This is what finally worked:

- Uninstall the previous version
- Manually delete the driver entries in Device Manager (one Novatel item under Modems and one under Ports), accepting the option to uninstall the driver.
- Reboot
- Install the new version downloaded from vzam.net (when you download, don't forget to click the blue link about a "known issue" -- it has a PDF with instructions you will need to follow later).
- After installing, reboot again (probably not necessary, but just in case...)
- Click the VZAccess Manager icon and follow the wizard until it says to connect the USB720.
- Connect the USB720 and let it try to install the drivers.
(a) It fails to find the correct drivers and prompts for a disk or for another location.
(b) When it prompts for a location, browse to c:\Program Files (x86)\Novatel Wireless\Drivers (NOT the Novatel folder under c:\Program Files (x86)\Verizon Wireless).

You will need to browse to the Novatel Wireless folder twice, once for each of two drivers.

After installing the drivers, click Next>> through the rest of the wizard, and you should be able to connect through VZAccess Manager.

Now you will still need to follow the instructions in the PDF about the "known issue" to disable IPv6, etc. to prevent connectivity problems later.

I am not seeing a blue link or anything about "known issues"

Bought the V740...for the second time after seeing that vzam now shows it to be vista 64 compatable. same result as the first time. Vista could not find "signed" driver. Even after I told it where to look.

I have the Dell minicard and want to use it. The 64 bit drivers are not listed on the verizon web site, although many others are.

I can't even get Verizon to acknowledge that they are going to provide a driver.

Any thoughts of a work around or insights?

WSHEE

PS . I have identified the minicard as a Expedite® EU870D 3.6 Mbps PCI Express Mini Card Embedded Module - HSDPA/UMTS or lower numbered Novatel product.

The Verizon V740 express card is now working on my Vista 64 bit Laptop, as of April 12, 2007.

Not cheap, but it is fast and portable.

Interesting they didn't include the Aircard 597E Expresscard on sale through Sprint.

Any idea why?

Are you running 64bit? Cause when I insert the USB Modem it can't create a new connection nor can it find the device. Just curious if this is only supported in 32bit.

Sorry about the 64bit reply, my bad.
Any idea on the error 711? For fun I install 32bit and didnt receive the error.

The error occurs when I plug the device in after installation to create the profile.
