I use a Kyocera KPC650 air card and it is installed into my home pc via a PCI to PCMCIA adapter. I use and external dual band yagi antenna, DB-489, and 50 ft of LMR400 cable. I saw a vast improvement using this antenna. My 1X signal stregnth went from 68-77% to 100% and my EVDO signal stregnth from 30-40% to 87%, I used the tombstone antenna before.
I live about 15 miles from the EVDO market and I have never connected to a EVDO tower. However when I look at the alltel quickmoble window I see that the EVDO signal comes in at times and my signal stregnth drops from 100% to 87%. When this happens my connection goes dormant and it never seems to stay on the EVDO signal. It did this also with the tombstone antenna but at the time my signal stregnth was very low so I figured that it was to low to maintain a connection but now with the stronger signal I do not know why it doesn't use it instead of the 1x signal.
There are many towers in my area but the closest ones do not use the EVDO technology. I think what maybe happening is that since the closer towers do provide a stronger signal that it is staying locked in on them and not using the EVDO tower with a weaker signal.
Anyone have any thoughts on this or could provide a solution to my problem?
Thanks,
sonofdaw |

I think that you are right in that it is going to lock in on the strongest signal and give you what ever that technology is.
But have you installed the PRL 40005, released 3-1-07, it may help you search for the EVDO first.
Good luck _________________ Ron |

I called Alltel and they gave me PRL 40007. I installed it and I had the same results. I was thinking of maybe buying a 1900 mhz band yagi and using it, that way the 800 Mhz band should have a higher impediance thus attenuating the 800 mhz band.
Ill try this and post my results.
Thanks for the reply Capt Ron |
