Just wondering... when I use my Kyocera KPC650 directly in my laptop, I have to connect very time so I assume that Verizon is "watching" my usage. However, when I plug the KPC650 into the KR1, it appears to be on all the time (ie I don't have to log in except once through my WEP protection).

Question: is it true that it is always on? and, if so, will I incur aditional charges from Verizon?

Thanks,

John

John, I have left my KPC650 on 24/7 in my KR1 and never incurred any additional charges.

As far as I can tell you won't incur any additional charges. You'll just recieve Vzw's thanks but no thanks letter canceling you for going over the 5gig Unlimited allowance. There's a whole thread full of folks who found out how this works the hard way at http://www.evdoforums.com/thread2366.html

The 5gig allowance of course applies to how much data you download in any given month and as I understand the KR1 ( I have one too that I use on Alltel and Sprint's network - not at the same time . . . .) goes into a dormant or sleep mode when not being used. It doesn't just sit there downloading. You'll notice it a tad slow when you "wake it up" each time. Anyway, note that the only issue anyone ever seems to have with Verizon is their use of the term "Unlimited" but I understand they have changed it in their TOS. Just be forewarned . . . .
