I just wanted to give a thanks to Walter for finding this tweak. My uploads have ALWAYS been capped out around 175kb/sec. I always figured it was my location, and I was jealous of others getting much higher results.
I implemented his tweak, and here are the results:
TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.3.4e
click START to begin
Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 1.10Mb/s
running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 937.43kb/s
BINGO! I have been testing it for an hour, and I even hit over 1.1Mb/sec uploads some times. BRILLIANT tweak. Bravo man.

In the SendDefaultWindow registry key Walter suggested we create in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AFD\Parameters, what value are some of you using (please specify hexidecimal or decimal)? _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

I'm using what he suggested; 78000(hex); I tried 388 and 3888 (hex) and they both didn't do as well....
Anyway, it would be nice to find out which is the optimal settings, but...I think that's going to take a long time. |

| Netscape 9.0 is providing better upload speeds (fast enough to indicate EVDO Rev A). Anyone else experiencing this? |

That's strange....either way, I get you can't go over 255k if you're going through the Linksys router. |

I know this is kinda unrelated, but I suffer the same problems with my Vz Fios connection 5mbs/2mbs, and I have no problems with download speeds, I have done numerious TCP tweaks. But my upload speeds differ widely between IE6 and FF2, normally around 1.1 - 1.3 for FF2 and 1.8-1.9 for IE6. I know walters tweak seemed to elude to being specifically for EVDO service, but I'm wondering if it will work for others (I will check when i get home from work tonight). Also my FTP test (upload of jpgs to my Vz webspace) produce similar speed to FF2 web based tests.
So I made the changes and now my FF2 and IE6 speed tests are similar 5200kbps down, 1850 kbps up (pretty close to the 5/2 i pay for). So I can only assume that firefox defaults the send window for the more common 512 kbps or less upload connections where as IE automatically adjust for it. I did notice some weird behavior tho, on the .gov speed test that was mentioned in this thread i get a reported 3420 kbps upload and also when running the flash upload speed tests it will stay around 1200-1300 kbps for 90% of the test then jumps to the 1850 for last 10% I assume this is due to some upload compression. Also interestingly my FTP speeds still run at 130 KB/s so it doesnt seem to be helping them, but that could be limited due to something else. |
