Finally got EVDO service through Verizon with a USB720. I was reading the fine print on my contract and it says there are some other monthly fees. My $59.99 monthly access fee balloons to $108.63 when all other fees are added in.
I have about a week to decide whether to take the Verizon modem and cell phone back. Any advice? If Sprint has the same additional costs then I will stay with Verizon.
Any comments appreciated.
Thank you, Doug |

Sounds like a pro-rated bill or a mistake. My Verizon bill looks like this:
Monthly Plan 59.99
Fed Universal Charge .01
Regulatory Charge .05
Admin Charge .40
MD. Sales Tax .02
--------------------------------
Total 60.47
Just activated a Sprint unlimited plan within the last few weeks. Right now it's looking like my monthly bill is about 61.93 give or take a few pennies. |

Doug, could you tell us what those other fees are ?
If it's too much to type, maybe just take a pic with a digicam, or scan it, then mark out the personal info. Leaving just the charges...
Thank you. |

It's possible that this is the first month bill and you are being charged a one time fee to set up the account, etc. |

The bills from Verizon & Sprint are pretty much identical.
On your first bill (from either), they bill you one month in advance, so your first bill may be for 1 1/2 months. The 2nd bill and after, will be for $59.99 and a dollar (or two) for taxes. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Thanks for all the quick replies. You guys are right. I just got off the phone with cust. serv. rep. that pointed out my misunderstanding. They gave me an estimate for the first months bill that included one day from the previous month, my activation fees for both the modem and the cell phone, and plenty of taxes.
When I woke up at 1:00 am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep right away, I should have never started reading the contract/receipts. I really screwed up reality.
I'm still happy with my modem. Even though I'm down in a hole here with 56kbs type reception, when I travel up the road it jumps up to ~700. Verizon engineering spent time with me yesterday diagnosing and one of their engineers called me back today to explain the situation. I've already ordered an antenna booster from 3gstore. It's all good and I'll be moving to a new location in a few months anyway.
I apologize for wasting the bandwidth. thanks again, Doug |

I apologize for wasting the bandwidth. thanks again, Doug | Apologies accepted Doug. Especially since you're the very first person not to be able to decipher a cell/data bill!!! (This is, of course, me being very sarcastic.)
Now, for the "you guys are right" part. Could I get you to teach my wife those words?
Welcome to the forums Doug! Glad to have ya! |

I live in the Tulsa area and just got my first Sprint wireless broadband bill.
$59.99 plus
Oklahoma sales tax .02
Tulsa county wireless 911 .50
Tulsa county sales tax .01
Glenpool City sales tax .02
Fed wireless number pooling .15
federal 911 .40
total $1.10
So you can see YMMV depending on your local charges.

What I find interesting are these:
Tulsa county wireless 911 .50
federal 911 .40
Whose gonna show up in an emergency? |

Good point.
I suppose the 911 charge is because you have a phone number associated with the card.
(Here we go with logic again...) But what use is the connection in an emergency ? Is there a 911 you can "call" on the evdo just like you do on the phone ?
So why are you charged for it ?
And yes, I'll happily pay the 911 fees. They need the funds, and the service benefits us all. Intenet or no...
But logically...

i worked with a guy for years who hailed from OK. jokingly, he made it very clear to me that 'there could be some corruption within the OK government'. (at least, i think he was joking)
there is no way to make a call from an EVDO device's 'phone number'.
(aside from voip, which doesn't count in this discussion)
i suspect that tulsa is just grabbing 2-bits where ever it can, and hoping Okies either don't notice, or decide it aint worth the effort to bitch about.
right phord? |

I find all of these listings lame. It's your price for doing business; I can't opt out of them. Just tell me what the bottom cost is for the phone/card/service period.
If your going to do this, how about listing the .2cents (for version reps thats $.002) I'm being billed to keep the corporate jet fueled and ready to go. |

$59.99 + $1.10 and there is no fone service with this.
It is suspect they believe that keeping a low profile and charging a few cents will keep us rabble rousers in chek<VBG>

Things haven't changed, he wasn't joking but until they raise the ante above a few cents a months I will pay it so I can maintain a low profile<G>
