I just bought a Novatel USB720 a couple days ago, and even though the speed and latency is great, the damn thing disconnects every 2-3 mins (mostly while playing online games).
I've copied a portion of the modem logs below. Anyone have any ideas to solving this?
03-08-2007 18:52:43.656 - CD dropped--Remote modem hung up. ModemStatus=02cf1e90
03-08-2007 18:52:43.656 - While processing CD event, CD is reported as high when it should be low
03-08-2007 18:52:43.656 - While processing CD dropping, CTS or DSR was found low.
03-08-2007 18:52:43.656 - TSP(0000): LINEEVENT: LINECALLSTATE_DISCONNECTED(0x1)
03-08-2007 18:52:43.656 - TSP(0000): LINEEVENT: LINECALLSTATE_DISCONNECTED(0x1)
03-08-2007 18:52:43.671 - User initiated removal requested.
03-08-2007 18:52:43.671 - TSP(0000): LINEEVENT: LINECALLSTATE_DISCONNECTED(0x1)
03-08-2007 18:52:43.703 - TSP(0000): Dropping Call
03-08-2007 18:52:43.703 - Hanging up the modem.

If you are on windows, you may want to use the DUN script in the network connections area. The Connection manager software creates this to actually connect to the network. There have been others who have had this problem and using the direct DUN for online games fixed this. The issue appears to be to much data being passed through the connection manager which makes it hang up the connection because it can't process it fast enough.
If you are on a Mac try using the Apple drivers if you are using Verizon's connection manager for the mac. _________________ --

And you would find this "DUNS script".....where? And how would you get it to work?
Thanks. |

Ok I am using Alltel, But here is what I do when I want to play WOW on my PC.
in Windows XP:
Click Start
then Select Connect To:
Select the EVDO-1x or just EVDO Connection it might also say National Broadband etc. Mine says "Axcess Data (EVDO-1x)" since I am on Alltel and that is what they call their service.
It should pop up a window with the Phone number filled in as #777. If you click Dial it should connect for you.
Secondly you can open up My Network Places and Select View Network Connection on the left. Then Double click the EVDO modem icon and dial that way.
Thridly, Under the Control Panel select Network connections and then Follow the steps for connecting above. _________________ --

This doesn't seem to work with Verizon. When I click connect I get a dialog saying you must use VZAccess manager to dial.
Another piece of information I noticed is that when i get disconnected the device does not seem to be recognized by Windows. |

I ran DUN with a Verizon V620 for many months. So it can work. Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem is in your particular case. _________________ Reach, Connect, Celebrate, Grow, Serve. |

I got everything working and I don't seem to get disconnected anymore. I did have to create a new DUN to get around the Verizon dialog popping up.
Luckily my 14 days is not up since i bought the modem. After reading their license agreements about what you can and can't do I'm pretty sure i'm going to return it. If anyone knows of some movement going on to put pressure on Verizon to change their "unlimited" service, let me know.. |

I've had a few hangups of this USB modem also. Running the Verizon software on MacBook Pro. I'm outside of the return period, but contemplating trying to exchange it for an express-card modem.
I've never noticed a correlation with hangups and data flow, though. Seems random, and then the modem is dead until I unplug it and plug it back in. |

| I know the Albany NY area is being upgraded to EVDO as we speak, a lot of areas here already have it switched on...the tower I connect to has to be in the proccess of the upgrade too since I get phantom EVDO signals that I just cant manage to connect to, when this started happening is when I started getting lower signal strengths and disconnects. |

I hope this gets figured out.
I'll be buying u720 in the next month or two.
