Hello everyone, just wanted to start by saying I'm brand new to EVDO so I will try to explain my problem as best as I can. I purchased Verizon Broadband/National access service about 4 weeks ago as an alternative to my current ISP(Hughesnet sat.....nuff said). My family's location is literally the middle of nowhere and until verizon rolled out EVDO in the are sat. was all we could get. According to the Verizon map(zip-61451), the "broadband access" area stops in the field behind my house. Well I got the USB 720 modem and used my laptop to see if I could grab the signal. To my suprise, I got signal(consistently -101DB to -105DB-broadband) with just the modem hooked to my laptop in 2 spots in my house, the 2nd floor back window being the most promising. I then pruchased the wilson trucker omni and KR1 router from 3Gstore and mounted and setup upstairs. The antenna is mounted on the side of the house outside and fed into upstairs sitting room to the router. Signal after testing and mounting antenna is -90DB to -94DB(on laptop...KR1 shows all signal bars except 2). This broadband and never wavers(until last night) and is as good of a signal as I can get with current setup. Setup KR1 and everything setup great, got a connection and tested speed and got 1013 down and 130 upw/o KR1(475 down 125 up w/KR1) w/150-275 ms latency(these speeds are almost always the same dl and ul speeds never waver). Well I game lightly(Age of Empires, Civilization...Etc not bandwith intensive) and tryed an online game and the KR1 would disconnect about 5-10 mins into the game. I've looked at the diagnostics in the router and it seems to me(also read similar problems in this forum) that the router "thinks" it lost the signal and pings to try to reconnect but in actuality it was never gone. Ok, so I sat down with my laptop last night and hooked straight to antenna and tried to game. About 15 mins into game I get disconnected, and on the VZ access manager it now says broadband access at bottom but right above that says national access. when I close down the game and go to disconnect the manager, it goes back to broadband access right before disconnect. Upon reconnecting, its broadband again. This happened a few times last night. Signal never changed(90-94) and national was stable(97-99 w/o antenna)even at low signal. I plan on getting the evdo amplifier but I wanted to ask....1. Is there anything else I should look for? 2. Will the amp solve my problem with (and w/o) the router. My guess(and it is one) is that it's a signal(or lack thereof) issue. If I can increase my signal further I will increase my stability. WOW! out of breath...hehe. Well any thoughts, ideas on this would be greatly appreciated. When it works it works great (compared to what I had).

Thanks for your time,

Shrek

I forgot to add that when it disconnects while in Broadband Access(hooked stright to modem) it pops up a USB install window saying configuring novatel device(or something like that) That was in game or just online surfing.

Hello,

Are these problems happening when using the KR1 + USB720?

The USB720 + KR1 is not full supported (yet), see:

Novatel Ovation U720 / USB720 and KR1 Compatibility Info

The first signal you had was very weak (-101 to -105). The improved signal to -90 is a good jump. Yes, an EVDO Amplifier will help even more with getting you much better signal.

But first, are you experiencing the same issues when the USB720 is plugged directly into your laptop and you use VZAccess Manager?

Yes, it does happen with the usb+kr1. I also had it happen when I plugged modem into my laptop. I think I have found one of the issues though. If I manipulate the ext antenna adapter to the modem even slightly the signal goes from the constant 90-94 and drops to -109DB(This is while keeping a good contact with the modem's ext jack and adapter pin). I'm going to have to exchange that I guess. I figured the amp would help as I will be procurring that item in the next week or so. The other question I have then is Kyocera/D-link going to support this modem and if so do you have an idea as to when?

Thanks,

Shrek
