|
|
So I thought I would post up something that I was told today as I activated my KPC650 card with Alltel today.
Background:
1. I currently have Sprint EVDO
2. I bought a KPC650 on ebay for $25. Clear ESN, Alltel branded.
3. I already have cell service with Alltel.
I want to do some testing with Alltel service since it might work better than Sprint for a project I am undertaking. So I called in to find out about the grace period and what the ETF fee was. Here is what I was told.
1. Activation fee for the card is $25
2. The grace period is 15 days
3a. If I cancel within 15 days, I am only out the activation fee.
3b. The 59.99 monthly card is refunded completely and not prorated
4. By virtue of owning my own card, I am not under any contract.
So basically, if the rep told me correctly, buying your own card exempts you from the contract and prevents an ETF. I asked her multiple times if that was true, and she confirmed it. I also told her that the grace period didn't seem very important if there was no contract since I was bringing my own card. Again, she confirmed.
So I had her go ahead and activate the card. The activation did not take very long and the card was working. I did not have to do anything with the Alltel software to get the card working. After I hung up I plugged it in and it just worked!
I plan on calling back and confirming I am not in a contract and the grace period is 15 days. But she seemed confident what she was saying was correct.
Can anyone else confirm this information? If true, buying your own card is a hell of a good deal if it means no ETF or contracts. You're just out the activation fee! |

Very Correct. If you bring your own card no Contract. No ETF.
If you bring your own card to Verizon however they make you sign a 1 year contract for the purposes of agreeing to the terms of service.(so that they can terminate you and charge $$$) |

Thanks for the confirmation.
I just got off the phone with Rep#2 and he confirmed everything Rep#1 said except that he was not sure if a cancellation w/i the 15 day "grace period" would give me a prorated or complete refund.
So YMMV with that aspect.
Overall I am very pleased with the policy. I bought a card that was $75 less than Alltel's "discounted price" and earned the benefit of not being trapped by a contract or ETF.
Pretty sweet. |

Seems strange, I added the service to a telephone and had to sign a two year contract.
But the 15 day return policy is correct in that there isn't any charge for the trial period. _________________ Ron |
