|
I installed the latest version of sprints comm manager and then plugged in my usb u720 when told to insert device from the comm manager. And nothing happens.
I've installed and reinstalled the latest software 3 times and nothing.
with the u720 plugged in i look under device manager and under modems it shows a data fax modem and then the novatel wireless expedite EV-Do Modem.
it also shows up under ports
novatel wireless expedite EV-DO diagnostics port (com6)
novatel wireless expedite EV-DO status port (com5)
toshiba bt port (com64)
I'm not sure what else todo
system
sony vgn-fe660g
windows xp
any help would greatly appreciated.

| Strangely, I've had this same issue with my U720 from time to time. Have you tried unplugging it while the SCM was running showing "initializing"? Then, for me anyway, plugging it back in while the SCM was "initializing" seemed to jog the SCM into noticing it was there. Go figure . . . . . . . |

a brief sigh of relief
I thought I was the only one who was having this issue.
I have the same exact problem.. WinXP installs, no conflicts. SCM will not detect card. I updated the SCM, rebooted, and still nothing.
Tech support was very helpful.
"Sir, what kind of computer do you have ?"
"It's a self-build."
"What kind? The brand, Dell, HP.. "
"It's a self-build, I pieced together."
"Oh, well then, that's the problem. Take it somewhere and have it serviced."
Brilliant!
Was there any known fix or workaround for this?
I'm highly anxious to give Comcast the boot, hence the reason for getting the card. |

Our tech guys get people calling with this issue too.
There are many ways to fix this, sometimes the easiest way is to plug the U720 into the same USB port every time (Windows or Mac). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| Try leaving the u720 plugged in while you power down, and then power back up, the computer. |

Check.
Tried this as well.
Any chance you might elaborate on the many ways to fix this ? |

Hmmmm
I know it's a simple thing, but are you sure you don't have a port or irq conflict ? |

Turned out to be a simple thing, but didn't involve anything with port / IRQ conflicts.
It was the fact I had turned on the feature "Don't ever dial a connection" setting. Being on broadband the last 7 years, and not having any other modem whatsoever... you get the point. Allow modems, the PCM will see your card.
Now to figure out the better HA addresses.
First speed test was 112/46.... |

LOL
Why is is that the complex we usually figure out prety quickly.
But 98 percent of the time, the simple things elude us ?

I'd also like to hear about the many ways to fix this. I have a U720 through Sprint and my "home built" computer (Intel board and Processor, XP Pro, on board and SIIG USB PCI card USB ports available) loads the latest SCM software (15 meg download at 2.5 kbps - I really need this card to work!!) and doesn't see the card when inserted. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the card, software, and entry in Device manager. Loaded drivers manually (auto install doesn't see the drivers, even when they appear in the entry under device manager after manual install), and tried just about every USB port on the machine. I did try the software and card in a friend's laptop and it worked great. The first thing it did was "update the firmware" and I thought that might fix the problem, but alas, such was not the case. I consistently get a "Code 10, Device will not start" when i check under modems in Device manager. I have a NIC card and an internal modem and disabled both of those without any luck. Oh, and my setting is for "dial whenever internet connection is unavailable".
Sprint Tech support through level three were very nice but pretty ineffective.
Any ideas from the Gurus? Please? |
