| I'd like to share my very recent experience involving Verizon and this particular device. I purchased the USB720 about a week ago because I need a way to connect my Vaio UX280P to a high speed ISP and the Vaio has no PCMCIA or cardbus port. I also use a more traditional Toshiba notebook which I've been using with a Verizon 5740 card. I can use the USB in either computer. BUT, the new USB720 will not connect to Verizon Broadband... it doesn't recognize that there IS Broadband service in my area (Denver), but rather connects to Verizon's National Access which is a vastly slower service (this also happens on any of three laptops I've tried it on). I've contacted Verizon support and they've indicated to me that this is a 'known' issue with the USB720 and that Novatel and Verizon are working on it. Has anyone else had this issue and/or response from Verizon? It seems strange because I've read forums and blogs where other folks are very happy with the USB720 so I'm mystified as to why it's considered a widespread known issue. This information came from Verizon's national support line as well as from the manager of of one of their outlets here. Any enlightenment would be much appreciated! |

i actually had a similar issue when i first got my usb720.
but the more i used it, the faster it got.
within a few days the issues worked themselves out, or by me being online the techs were able to debug and fix it.
but the more data i pushed through it the better the connection got.
now i get average rev 0 speeds consistantly |

I had the same problem with only getting 1x even in an ev-a area. Turns out they had me on a 1x only plan. They changed it to 'broadband promo unlim' and within minutes it would connect ev-a.
Just a thought, as they had my national access account dressed up with all the features (they said) to allow ev, but it just would not work. I also had the usb720. You might check the plan. |

| Thanks! Perhaps this additional history will shed some light. I replaced my older 5740 card with this one. The clerk at the store didn't do anything so naturally when I tried to activate the new USB device the EIN was still linked to the 5740. Verizon National tech support 'fixed' the problem for me but had some trouble doing so. At the time it happened I didn't notice that when a successful connection was finally made, the device only saw the NationalAccess service. If I could ask one more bit of advice, what would be the best way to make sure that Verizon double checks the setup? (because I've mentioned the link setup issue to them once already) In other words what's the best way to fix this?? Much appreciated. |

The plan they had me on listed as '1x only' on the online account details (where the contract date is and all), and to get it to work they had to move me to 'broadband promo unlim' for the same monthly price. Then like magic it connected ev.
Under vzmanager it even listed 'coverage' as 1x when I was in ev-a.
After they refreshed my account all was as it was supposed to be.
Might check the plan wording, and you can do that part yourself. |
