this looks to be a great resource and i appreciate the creators for all of this info. Smile

i am kind of confused as to what is actually going to work best for me.

my hardware is:

- hp dv1000 laptop
- running xp pro
- using firefox 1.5
- using kyrocera kpc650 on verizon service in an excellent ev area

my results so far from speakeasy.net/speedtest:

using nothing but standard setup:

384 kbps download
85 kbps upload

using TCPOptimizer from Speedguide.net:

128 kbps download
66 kbps upload

current setting:

441 kbps download
116 kbps upload

any suggestions on what i can do to get the type of speeds that i am reading about on here? so far i am not to impressed with my internet speed with this service.

thanks for any help

It could be any of those factors, see if those answer any of the problems you may having. If not, you can try an antenna and amp.

My only setting change was the TCP Receive WIndow change. I have a Kyocera KPC 650 PC card. FWIW, I only had two bars on my phone when I did the speed test.

I recently purchased a new Laptop, and have migrated my Kyocera 650 to it. Previously, with my old laptop, I employeed the Dr. TCP tool to effectively increase its speed.

With the new Laptop, however, the PCMCIA slot and Kyocera card are not an option within the Adaptor Pull down on Dr. TCP. Within the Network Connection Control Panel I can see that the card and its connection(s) are identified as a "Dial-Up" connections, and the Adaptors that Dr TCP shows as options in the pull down are all the LAN or High-Speed Internet connections. Is this the issue, and if so is there any way I can make appropriate changes to facilitate the speed improvement?

Thanks for anyone's insight.

Not to worry. Use DrTCP to make your changes to ANY of the listed adaptors and you'll find it changes them all. WinXP uses a single tcp/ip configuration for all its adapters. Make the changes, save and exit, reboot. You'll find the changes have been made and are in use for your card.

I'm pretty sure you can select any adaptor in the pull down menu. The setting change will affect everything, regardless of whether or not they appear in the pull down menu.

Thanks you for the replys, I have made the changes with little obseervable speed change, unfortunately.

Through out the thread I see numerous different Packet size recommendations, seemingly some implying that you need to "fish" for the sweet spot with one's set up. Any advice on what to use? I have a Kyocera 650, and with my old Laptop I would see Max speeds in the mid thousands to 2 thousands, currently only 700-800 Max speed.

Thanks!

Mine slowed down quite a bit after trying this tweak.

I started at 765/50 after using 65536 it went to 484/90

how do i remove this guys? do I simply just delete the DR.TCP off of the HD?

i was wondering this too - this is obviously a registry tweak that the dr. tcp program does - but when you start the dr. tcp program, the value for this field is blank, so you don't know originally what it was if you need to put it back. anybody know what the default value was???
