Glad you enjoy our forums - there are so many regular posters here that deserve so much thanks for their time and efforts. |
just to add something i just finished using cable nut with update packets and im recieving 1140 on download and 400 on upload seems pretty good to me
for some reason the drtcp didnt find my card just wondering is that normal? |
no i have gone to several new sites that measure speed and the test results that i have gotten each time have been 1300's and up I used the t3 file in cable nut which has doubled my speeds |

| I know the cards suppose to max at 700 but why are the sites showing me 1300 and 1400 kbps speeds? I did use the t3 settings for xp on cable nut unless it is fooling the speed transfer. Please explain maybe im misunderstanding something here. |

Dear Forum Members,
Now I am doing my paper about EV-DO for completing my study. Unfortunately in my country, the service which using this techonology is still limited especially for EV-DO rev. A. At this forum I would like to ask some questions to you for helping me to complete my assignment about EV-DO
1.What kind of hardware and software could be used to calculate throughout, packet loss, latency, jitter and delay?
2.While we access an internet using an EV-DO, what kind of hardware and software that could be used in the configuration?and how to configure hardware n software that be used in the configuration
3.Do you mind to give me more complete measurement data that supporting my question number 1 and 2?cause i need complete measurement data to calculate Mean of Score (MOS) for EV-DO service.
Thank you for paying an attention for me. And I am waiting for your answer… |

Cards are not limited to 700. The technology is the only limit. EVDO Rev 0 is limited to 2400kbps download and Rev A is limited to 3100kbps download. Any data card I've ever heard of is capable of these limits. There are many other factors that cause people to see much less performance including but not limited to signal strength (your location related to the nearest tower/towers), weather, load on tower/towers you're accessing, etc. |

Is there a program other than cablenut
that works on vista to improve performance on evdo cards? |

Let me advise two things:
1. Back up your registry before making any changes via Cablenut. (Or any other optimizer that will change your registry settings.)
2. Don't use Dr. Tweak's settings if you're running 1xRTT instead of EVDO on a PX 500 card.
I learned this the hard way. I input them via Cablenut and saved them and my speed dropped from downloads of around 105 kbps to less than 13 kbps. That's a miserable crawl -- it feels like about the speed we used to get with Radio Shack accoustic couplers hooked onto a telephone handset in the 1980s when it took four minutes to send a three-paragraph text file.
And while I thought I had saved the registry before making the changes, it turns out I had not. And it took me forever to get my settings and "speed" back.
I eventually did recover my settings and speed by using a TC/IP fix program and TZ Connection Optimizer and uninstalling and reinstalling the Sprint Connection Manager software and reactivating my card. And, I hate to admit it, it took me almost five full days of working on this to figure it out and do all that. Forty-plus hours. But maybe I learned a thing or three along the way.
Hope someone else can learn from my mistake.
I am now getting consistent download speeds in the 130 kbps range (about 16KB) and uploads in the 40 kpbs range (about 5 to 6 KB). I did that in part by switching my home agent to .185 (76/77), which speedtest.net tells me is Dallas.
I am near Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The Sprint Connection Manager default Home Agents for me are Stockton or Sacramento (.49.76) and Anaheim (.56.76). With everything tweaked, the best speeds they give me are about 105 kbps down, and more often I'm in the 70 to 90 range.
(The locations for these Home Agent numbers don't agree with those Xenophone has posted in the Home Agent thread, but are what Speedtest.net is giving me. Xenophone may have them right and I may have them wrong. But I'm using what Speedtest.net tells me for reference right now.)
I suppose I am assigned California Home Agents by default because I am also assigned a Sacramento, Calif. area phone number. Why? Beats me. I'm 1,400 miles from there.
For what it's worth, I am getting a high-ISDN, very-low-broadband speed on 1xRTT with an excellent signal (via an Intelligain 3-watt amplifier) of about -67 db and using the settings TZ Connection Optimizer input when I told it I was running DSL. I also changed the speed limit for my computer to communicate to my modem and vice versa from 115k to 230k. That did seem to have some small effect. When I moved it higher, it actually seemed to slow my downloads.
Coincidence? I don't know. Maybe someone with the tech expertise can address whether changing that setting is helpful or not.
In all, this combination of settings changed my speed from about 105 dl to 120 to 125 dl using the Sprint-assigned Home Agent, and to about 135 dl using my choice of the Dallas home agent.
Interestingly, the Kansas City Home agents (.81 and .89) that most people seem to have such good luck with are running much more slowly for me. They ran very quickly at 1 a.m., but during the day, just choke with downloads in the 20 kbps range. So, for now, I'm sticking with Dallas (.185).
Still to be addressed:
I still haven't sorted out my ping/latency problem. I generally have a latency of 885 to 999 milliseconds on speedtest.net. I'll be tackling that next. What should I expect for latency, using Sprint via roaming in a 1xRTT area?
Any advice?
Thanks,
kwc |

I believe this is the right forum for tweaking and I'm hoping an expert can look at this article and directions and see if its really safe. I downloaded the files and followed the directions and noticed an approximately 200 kbps download increase. The directions say to use Firefox only, however, over two hours I was seeing an average increase of 200kbps. I'm kind of leary of the Lvllord's tweak program though, my McAffee Firewall showed red and didnt want me to continue when I used it to increase the TCP connections to 100 from 10. Here's the link to the news article:

|

Well, I guess I found my own answer with google. Gotta love google, haha. I googled lvllords and found other forums talking about this patch. Apparently you have to run it occasionally as Windows XP SP2 will reset the TCP.sys file. As always, make a backup before trying anything.
http://www.lvllord.de/ is the main site talking about this patch
I kept testing last night after posting and ran two computers side by side (laptop running xp home and desktop running xp home) testing on speedtest.net. I loaded the lvllords program on my laptop which is comparatively slower hardware wise to my desktop. I noticed an approximately 30% increase in download speed with the tcp.sys file adjusted with this program. I believe the link in my post above has disappeared, however I'm sure someone will pop in to show a link to download the lvllords patch if they know and trust it. |

| New to the wireless card and this vista. Always had home computer. I am an over the road driver with a laptop hp pravilion. I downloaded the updated patch, but that kind of seems to even slow it down more. I am really upset that this is so slow. every time i have to log in i have to go into the internet connection and take out the sprint connecton in order for it to work or it will connect and disconnect and over and over. WHAT DO I DO AND WHAT DID I DO WRONG |

Which patch are you referring to? The one I used or the Sprint Connection Manager update? If your using the one I mentioned you can run it again and ensure you put in 10 (this resets it to what XP SP2 originally had). I put in 100 and that sped my system up tremendously.
Are you using while your driving down the road? If so, it could be disconnecting when you run out of signal, then reconnecting when you get a signal again. You also may be in 1x RTT mode which isnt the fastest speed. All depends on where your located. Need a little more information. I had that problem with not connecting, so I'd take out the sprint connection in network connections, then reboot, and it reset. But havent had that happen in a long time.
Last but not least, you've got 30 days to test it out to see if you like it or return if you dont..... |
