A month or so people were complaining about their VPN not working while mine was.
Now with the latest Apple update I have lost the connectivity of the Mac OS X VPN and a Windows 2003 Server. This was working albeit very slowly with Filemaker for the past many months.
Any ideas on how to fix it other than rolling back... |

I've also noticed that the Apple update does not allow a VPN connection with the Cisco Mac VPN client, although I have no trouble using the VPN with the Verizon VZAccess software. (MacBook Pro/Verizon USB720 modem). |

I got my EX720 running great but when I try to use Cisco VPN I get the Error 51 no VPN subsystem has started. Has anyone had any luck on this issue? I saw a couple posts where it was fixed for the older cards.
The problem is supposed to be the Cisco client has issues with the adapter name for WWAN but even when I used the EVDO driver which names is ppp0 it still does not work. |

| I occasionally see that message too. A reboot generally seems to solve this issue for me. |

|

The Apple WWAN update seems to have screwed up my ability to use the Cisco VPN 4.9.01 (0030) client. Before the update I could stay connected to VPN on the V640 card for hours or as long as needed. Now I either can't connect at all or I get disconnected literally after 2-3 seconds on every connection attempt.
Is there a way to revert back to the older Apple Driver? I tried removing the new update per the MacFixIt instructions, however that seems to remove the functionality of the card completely. So it seems that I either have to remove the update and then install the VZ access software OR I have to do an Archive and Install of the OS, start from scratch rebuilding my OS back up to 10.4.8 and NOT apply the WWAN update. Both would be a pain. Is there another option?
Is Apple working on a way to revert back? Is Cisco working on a patch to the VPN client? |

Well after a lot of research and help from our sprint business rep I pieced together a fix that allows you to use the ex720 no problem.
Here are all the steps to make it work properly.
First do not use the Apple WWAN drivers for the EX720 the modem BSD name is not recognized by Cisco VPN Client.
Download the Novatel drivers for the EX720 from the Sprint website.
Install the card following the provided instructions with the drivers.
Be sure the modem attached to the card one installed is Sprint PCS Vision this will assign it to a PPP connection that Cisco VPN client can use.
Connect to Sprint network with the EX720 (note use the modem icon to connect not the Sprint one or you must redo the steps below)
Run the following commands in terminal:
sudo /System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN stop
sudo /System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN start
Now launch the Cisco VPN client and connect as you normally would.
Hope this post helps others as there is nothing on the ex720 out there all this info is pieced together from other issues and cards. |

I tried the exact order listed in the post (plus a few variations) and couldn't get my Cisco VPN to stay connected more than 5 secs (it kicks me out exactly after 5 secs with the error:
"Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client
Reason 422: Lost contact with the security gateway..."
Anyone else have any other ideas?
Thanks - Jeff |

In addition to my previous post, does anything have to be added to VPN section in the Internet Connect settings? Or does Cisco's client use all it's local settings? (I assume)
Thanks - Jeff |

OK, so after many hours of frustration, I have found a combination that works
Here is the equip:
MB pro, Verizon V740, Cisco VPN client - Must use Version this exact version.
vpnclient-darwin-4.9.01.0030-universal-k9.dmg
- just search this string in google to find it on a university server.
(Note version vpnclient-darwin-4.9.00.0050-universal-k9.dmg - does NOT work)
Is simple,
1. I ran the stupid apple update and it works and allows great connectivity but NO cisco VPN support. It either drops out after 3-4 seconds or does not try to find the transport at all. Same symptom as others have seen.
2. I tried the latest VZ Access Manager 3.3.0 software for Mac. - install it after the apple driver update - it steps on the drivers and gets them out of the way. The start it up, start VPN - works fine. does not drop out like before.
Good luck. |

I was getting the 422 error and disconnect after 5 seconds when I tried to use my Cisco VPN software on my macbook. If you have Paralells installed all you need to do is disable Paralells NAT in network port configurations and you will stay connected forever!!! I am using cisco client 4.9.01.0030 with the Novatel drivers from Sprint and osx 4.9 with the wwan update.
Hope this helps someone |

steevo01...
This sounds exactly like my problem (I also use Parallels). When you say "diasable Parallels NAT in network port configurations", does this mean use just disable Networking within Parallels? I tried that, but still get the same problem.
Could there be somewhere in Network Preferences that I need to "disable Parallels NAT?"
Thanks - jeff |
