|
|
| I am considering purchasing a U720 for my Dell Dimension 4400 Desktop. I would like to network it with my M140 Laptop. I have Netgear WGR614 Router. Is this possible? I run Windows XP on both machines. Thanks in advance. |

That's exactly what I did. Already had the lan setup sharing a dialup. It was a simple matter to switch the sharing to the EVDO adapter in the connection properties. _________________ Nevermind... |

Same here. Have my U720 plugged into my server and using ICS to share the connection with 3 workstations. If you use Windows Dial-Up Networking (DUN) instead of Connection Manager, you don't even have to be logged into the machine connected to the U720. _________________ Reach, Connect, Celebrate, Grow, Serve. |

| I read the link, however, let me add some detail. My Dimension 4400 Desktop does not have a wireless card installed. I would be using the U720 modem as my primary connection on it. I then would like to network it to the M140 Laptop, which has a built-in WIFI card. Is this still doable without the use of my WGR614 router? |

OK, so I think you want to do the following:
U720 <- USB -> desktop <- wired -> WGR614 <- wireless -> laptop
Yes?
If so, then yes, you should be able to do that. I set up my neighbor almost the same way but with the U720 plugged into the laptop instead. Basically, what you want to do is turn your router into an access point. You do this by turning off the DHCP Server in the router. This can usually be done in one of the router setup pages. You then turn on ICS on your desktop and share the U720. This will force your desktop to an IP address of 192.168.0.1 (there is no way to change this when using ICS). You then need to either tell your router and laptop to be DHCP clients or manually set their IP addresses to unused values in the 192.168.0.xxx range.
Good luck. HTH. _________________ Reach, Connect, Celebrate, Grow, Serve. |

| Thanks, Walter. That makes sense, and it is probably the route that I will go. |

Hello, I am trying to do the same thing, should I plug my desktop computer into the Wan port or the Lan port of my wireless router if I want to share my USB720 desktop connection wireless to my laptop? |

Plug your desktop computer into one of the LAN ports on the router. _________________ Reach, Connect, Celebrate, Grow, Serve. |
