| This old man going mobile, widowed and free to visit grandchildren when I am able, gotta have my message board and webmail connections so will purchase laptop and air card, am on alltel with cell phone so will stick to them if I have to, but they don't have external antenna connection on their aircard, and will need external antenna on motorhome. Now the question is do I have to purchase from alltel and will a KPC 650, which I understand has ext. ant. connection bought from this outfit work on alltel and how do I go about it. Will I need the laptop, and axcess service from alltel before purchase ? Probably more questions later. Bobby |

What kind of computer will you use in motorhome? Laptop with a pcmcia slot? or desktop with no slots.
Sprint EVDO is a good choice since they have an EVDO roaming agreement with Alltel, and a 1xRTT roaming arrangement with Verizon.
With that combination, you should hardly ever find an area where you are completely disconnected.
What's more important is getting the best signal.

Bobby,
With Alltel you have 2 options. If you have an EVDO capable cellphone you can get an adapter cable and use it by adding the alltel Axess service to the phone. if you go to: http://www.alltel.com/phones/serviceselector.html and check your phone if it is listed as broadband/mobilelink you can get the adapter cable and add the service to your phone.
Also the PC650 card that alltel sells does support an external antenna. The older card the Alltel sold did not. _________________ --

If you use Alltel, you can add Access service to a capable phone for $25 a month. Then they will sell you a data kit to connect the laptop to the phone to access the Internet. When not in an Alltel area you will roam on Verizon or Sprint service 1RXTT free. The service works very good.
This service will cost more with any other company. The air card is $59.99 with Alltel for the service. It is the same with other companies if you have cell service with them too.
Sprint has faster data levels of service but I suggest that you check the areas that you will be in before selecting them. I don't think that the faster speed is in very many locations. _________________ Ron |
