Well, I spoke with Linksys online tech support earlier. Of course the lady couldn't resolve the issue because she couldn't write a firmware upgrade for me BUT she did forward the issue to the engineer department. I told her this is a unit wide issue. If anyone has the time I think it would be a good idea to do the same so they have this issue logged from more than one person.

Might want to check out this thread:
http://www.evdoforums.com/thread5187.html
It may apply to your situation. The fix is close to the end of the thread. _________________ Reach, Connect, Celebrate, Grow, Serve. |

| That's NOT a fix for the upload issue when using the router. |

Thought it might be worth a try. Sorry it wasn't a fix for your particular problem. _________________ Reach, Connect, Celebrate, Grow, Serve. |

I agree; just give it a try; when Walter, here, tried it out on his computers (who share the EVDO connection via ICS on a server computer), it did improve the upload speeds; I would tend to think that it may help the problem here, as well.
Of course, I wouldn't doubt it's a 2-part problem; the fix above may solve half of it, but a new firmware upgrade will probably be needed to fix the other half (the router itself)....that is, if there is a problem with the router and upload speed. |

I'm going to contact them also today also. I did a test yesterday, with the card in my laptop, sitting inches from where my router is, I was about to get 500k up, but with it in my router..getting 130k up. The signal when the card was in my laptop was -70. |

| With mine in my laptop, I normally get over 700, with it in the router I max out at about 250. This is with about a -60dbm signal. |

Please include your:
- Firmware version in LinkSys
- Card used + firmware version of card
- Signal strength of card when in laptop
- using Ethernet or WiFi?
- if WiFi, test Ethernet to see if you get same/better speeds. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Well, for what it's worth...I didn't have much luck on my end either..I "think" they sent it off to be tested..heck..I couldn't even get the support guy to send me to an escalation manager..I asked 3 times and just ignored me. They tried to tell me this and I didn't and NOT going to buy this
"Actually, we cannot expect to get the same download or upload speeds when the card is connected to the router. The router has a built-in firewall that causes the speed to be cut in half. That is how it normally goes"
I told them BS, I could see maybe a 1/4 slow down..but not over 1/2. I have 1 more road, I'm going to try to go down, just not sure if anything else we can do... |

that's a complete load of crock; I was told a similar thing when I was initially setting up my wireless router to share 56K; this "certified Microsoft Technician" told me (in a very blunt and rude manner, I might add), that "it'd be messy to set up, and not worth it; the router would take up 1/3 of the connections bandwidth to act as a host; forget about it".
Bull....when I actually set it up my bandwidth was EXACTLY the same when I did a speedtest on the host or on the computer that was the client.
Also, I might add, my router, too, has a firewall, and my upload speed isn't cut in half, therefore...well, he's blowing hot air. (My router is a Linksys WRT54G by the by).
It sounds as though the unit may have a problem...
Anyway, have any of you tried hooking the router directly to a PC's ethernet port and disable the wireless feature in the router, then see what results you come up with? |

| I just realized you can turn off the firewall and it makes no difference in the speed, dumb dumb me, didn't even bother looking to see if you can turn it off. I just turned mine off, and it made no difference. Going to contact them again tomorrow and see what they say. I actually asked for where it was documented that they cut the speed in half when going through the firewall..they said it wasn't documented. |

ok, that's good; now you have some ammo to actually fire back at them.
Anyway, like I said before, have you tried turning off the wireless and using the wired portion of the router to see if that would make a difference? |

| I took my router and hooked it up in my truck via my dc to ac converter (walmart $30) and drove to my local Sprint tower. I was able to get over 600k upload on RevA using the wifi-G on my laptop. Im using a S720 and the new firmware on the router. I put the S720 in my notebook and got around the same speeds. You may want to try to experiment abit too in your area if you can. I noticed if I just go to the end of my block the speed jumps up dramaticly. SO it could depend on your specific geographic situation too. Im not rulling out somthing funky going on with the linksys but im just letting you know I have gotten over 256k upload consistantly with it. |

I wish it was that easy for the linksys. I sat my laptop down, right beside my router where I got a -71 signal and with my laptop I got 576 Kbps, disconnected, put in my router, inches beside my laptop and did the same test and got 272k on that upload, which is actually not average..my average had been between 100-130k.
As for testing through a wired connection, no I haven't, but I'll give that a shot tomorrow. When Rev A was turned on, my signal got worse and had to move my router upstairs to the other end of the house, to make up for the signal loss. |
