sweet! please post results |
Well, I installed it and don't see much difference in upload performance. I've already reported it to LinkSys. With the card in my router I'm seeing about 216kbs upload, with the card in my laptop I'm seeing 330kbps. It is a little better, I used to average about 175 upload, but still not where I would expect it to be. |

I upgraded my router, and I have seen a little improvement, I've had mid to upper 300k uploads. Nothing great, but it's a little improvement. I'm stunned..almost a year to get a 100k improvement. What should I put on my Christmas list for next year, another 100k?

I applied it last weekend and things have been working fine. Removed the QoS fix from before and uploads are still good. With the previous firmware I was averaging about 1024/400. Now its about 1200/500 when I have a good or excellent signal.

Wow, I envy your signal strength. I average about 800/220, not very good for the price of this service. I'm putting all of my hopes into the WiMax that is coming out soon. Hopefully real soon.

My router has been rock solid since September. I upgraded the firmware to help with the upload speed. It did help. I went from 800/200 to 800/400. Weird thing though, my signal strength went from excellent to good. Probably just coincidence.

Well, I flashed my router to the latest firmware. My results are good and bad.
Good news is, the uploads are better but still not the same as using the card in my laptop. I am using the PC5750 air card.
Bad news is, the router is unresponsive when trying to log into it. The internet appears to be working fine though. Sometimes i can get to the first screen of the router but most times it times out.
here are my results:
Before:
1308 down
127 up
1328 down
108 up
1324 down
110 up
After:
1312 down
335 up
1337 down
366 up
1343 down
370 up |

| Another note, the new firmware rendered the admin pages useless on my router. I was unable to get in the router to reflash it back to 2.0.0.9. the page simply wouldn't load. I had to use the program TFTP to get the old firmware back on the router. Be careful with this newest firmware. My router had been rock solid before trying this new firmware. Not a single problem in 3 months. I'm going to make some comments on the linksys site about this. This sucks. |

There must be something seriously weird about this firmware as several people have reported the same issue as you. However, I flashed two different WRT54G3G's without incident and still have access to the admin pages. _________________ --Larry |

larry, can you give me some details on your setup. I may try it again since I know i can use tftp to go back.
did you have it connected to the internet when you flashed? did you use a pc via wireless or lan when flashing? was the pc card even in the router when you flashed? did you have any other computers attached via wireless or lan when you flashed? did you do anything special post flash?
I read a statement from the linksys user guide that said hold the reset button for 30 seconds to make sure the firmware takes affect. well i tried that and the router did appear to be doing something but the power light started blinking but never stopped. I had to pull the power. Also, I tried resetting to factory defaults on the router with the new firmware but still couldn't acess any of the pages.
thanks,

I had some freakiness with dd-wrt on older WRT54GS routers and this seemed to be a common thing to try and reduce issues between builds. | Quote: | | I read a statement from the linksys user guide that said hold the reset button for 30 seconds to make sure the firmware takes affect | Pulling the plug, holding down the reset button, plugging back in and keeping the reset button down for 30 seconds is supposed to be the same thing as reseting everything back to firmware defaults.
Losing access to the web admin page is not a good thing, but if it is any consolation it does not appear that you are alone. _________________ --Larry |

I flashed the upgrade a week or so ago. I didn't have to power off/on, or hold the reset. As soon as it was done flashing, the changes were available. I also now get the signal strength indicator that didn't work with the xp500 card.
Before upload speeds were 400 - 450kbps
After upload speeds are typically 650kbps, and sometimes have reached 700kbps. One very large upload reached over 900kbps.
I have the Qos set to auto.
I have to say this router is working 100% with this latest firmware. Not one single hickup, reset, disconnect, or lockup experienced since this firmware was installed. |
