Obviously Linksys doesn't test their firmware with a broadband card to see if it actually works or not. Mad

More to the point would be to ask how it was tested, with what equipment and so forth. The units had to pass the FCC tests and I would bet that Sprint gave it a thorough test with the units available at that time.

Of course no one could ever test anything with all of the garbage people have on their computers, file corruption, hardware incompatabilities, Vista, and so forth. I have cleaned up people's computers and had them running perfectly and before I had gotten 30 feet away, the put back all of the junk and encountered the same failures.

Truly, what is needed is diagnostic software that would check each item on the user's computer and end up saying, if you fix this or uninstall this it will work. This would of course cover firewall settings, ports, plugs, hardware, etc.

A starter might be software to test your wireless card and give it a pass fail. Numerous threads have had people spend a lot of time suggesting stuff only to turn out to be:

Bad Card
Firewall conflict
Bad socket

Apologies if I've wandered. Must have been the chili pepper...

We all know our cards work correctly, hense why we're getting 600+ on uploads with the card in the laptop and about 200 with it in the router (Assuming everyone is in Rev A)

I have the same thing going on. Without the WRT543G-ST router, I get 850-950K upload and about 1mb download. With the router, I 200k upload and 1mb download. Something is up with that box. Tested multiple times.

I think it's pretty safe to say EVERYONE is having this issue and we all know it's the router that's causing it.

Yeah, I know what you mean, jima. I have a feeling that the solution to this problem will be solved by someone other than Sprint or Linksys (ie: DD-WRT for the WRT54G3G-ST). If that happens, you might as well use that anyway; it'd be much more powerful.

With no router you get:

Card <---> Internet (encrypted)

With the router you get:

Computer <---> wifi (lots of encryption I hope)
wifi <---> Router (lots of unencryption)
Router <---> card (my guess is that this is a patch and not perfect)
Card <---> internet (encrypted)

Plus the original motherboard on the router was not designed for wireless broad band and that has been patched in.

Could the Rev A on the uploads may have be turned off.

I would test the router by eliminating the wireless card and connecting it directly to the internet. Compare the average speeds with wifi to router and ethernet to router and wifi to other receiver and ethernet direct.

Ethernet to Wrt54g3g to www
Ethernet to www using other router.
Wifi to Wrt54g3g to www
wifi to www using outher wifi router.

Also I don't recall seeing anyone list the type of wifi they are using to go to the lyncsys.

Wait until you read my reply when I email them with the files they requested..they KNOW what the problem is but are totally ignoring it AFTER they brought it up. Here is the email I received about 15 minutes ago..

Our Engineers request for packet captures to be able to analyze the problem better, you can either use Wireshark or Ethereal to get the traces. A one minute long capture (with just normal Internet traffic) will do. Make sure to get two captures, one for a direct connection to the laptop, and the other with the adapter plugged in directly to the router.

Linksys needs the information to be able to analyze the problem better, as our engineers weren’t able to replicate the problem on their end.

This is total BS! What is Linksys' problem? Are they just not wanting to fix the issue at hand and sweep it under the rug? Are they totally EVDO illiterate?

Seriously, why can't they just stick an EVDO card in a laptop, run a speed test, write the results down, take the card out, put it into the router, hook the router up to the laptop, and run another speed test? I mean, come on, how hard is that; you'd notice there's a problem RIGHT away.

Geesh...I'm beginning to give up on Linksys for a result to this problem; I'm wondering if the DD-WRT community is the way to go/people to bug.

Got the same request from Linksys By phone Yesterday as glacierjima. They suggested Ethereal. They did not tell me that their engineers could not duplicate the problem but I did not ask. I think since I have both V620 Verizon and S720 Sprint that I will send them both sets of data. Since their router cuts both uploads in half. Anyway, since they asked for data, I will provide if just to eliminate the excuses.

I'm doing the same, in the process of sending them now. I can see them now..2 or 3 of them sitting around thinking..how long can/should we torture them before we tell them, it's not a router problem.

Just a thought..it's a linksys router..how much blame should we actually put on Cisco?? I know Cisco owns them, but how much control does "big brother" put on linksys?

Jim

I layed into them about the other firmware that was mentioned and here is their....excuse..

Our Engineers is testing it on latest firmware 2.00.9 and the previous firmware that was released for the device. We apologize for the email about firmware 2.00.22, this firmware is for a European version of the WRT54G3G and not for the WRT54G3G-ST. Again, thank you for your time and patience.

I sent them 4 sets of data captured with wireshark as well as screen captures of results. I captured during upload tests.
