Why do I have to reboot the WRT54G3G-ST 2-3 times a day?

First you have to ssh root@router_ip_address
Once in you would use vi
If you have never used vi before, read about it first.

see "Mephis: Mon May 14, 2007 2:28 pm" post in this thread.

I had GREAT throughput on a new PX-500 card and it kept crapping out today. Worked fine w/the card in the laptop, horrible download/upload even w/a direct cable connection to the router. I updated MTU to 998, rebooted and everything seems to be okay now ...

The OpenWrt White Russian 'ware that they are fabricating and finalizing is very stable and user-friendly, just a bit more advanced and flexible than the shell that linksys uses.

Mine has been running for several days, resetting itself when it needs to and reconnecting automatically.

I noticed nothing has been posted on this subject since 2007. Has the problem gone away, or has everyone just given up and resigned to manually power-cycling their routers?

The reason I ask is because I work for a company that developed a device that will power-cycle a router automatically. It was actually a minor firmware change to an existing product we make, the ILF-100.

We normally only sell through alarm distributors, but you might be able to work something out if you call our sales department, since this is not really a security system application. You can see it at stealthalbs.com.

I am still having this problem...but notice no new posts. Is the Open WRT the best option to solve?

What version of the OEM firmware are you running, how did you update it and did you do a master reset to all default values?

I have never had the problem, on any OEM version released (including the beta).

I have the same problem with an S720 card. I have two computers connected to the router, and the problem seems to occur on one computer more than the other, although it does occur on both at times. I have found that sometimes I can just open my network connections in Windows, disable the connection, then re-enable it, and that works lots of times. There are other times when that does not work, so I reboot the router (using the web browser interface) and that works. Sometimes THAT doesn't even work, so I unplug the router and plug it back in. And every now and then even THAT does not work, so I reboot the computer, and that always works.

For what it's worth...

I'm running 2.0.0.9... the latest update from Sprint. My connection drops sometimes often...sometime not so often. I live close to downtown Birmingham, so I have an excellent signal.

There have been at least two more from Linksys, that also include the fix for the upload problem. I don't believe that either address the chronic need to reboot, but as I said, I have never had that problem and don't believe that it is universal to all WRT54G3G-ST users.

FWIW, I use a S720.
