|
|
Ok, I searched for an answer and couldn't find it ...so I am going to pose the question and see if anyone knows.
Here is the scenario. I want to install a Linksys/S620 combo in a location that is serviced by Sprint 1xRTT *AND* Alltel EVDO. Sprint does not have an EVDO presence there yet.
So, assuming I update the S620 to the latest PRL, will the Linksys lock on to the Alltel EVDO or the Sprint 1xRTT?
Inquiring minds want to know....
If no one answers by Friday, I will have discovered the answer for myself. |

| If you can lock the card into automatic and EVDO only then it should. |

I'm taking about on the linksys. There aren't any options for that in the Linksys web admin. |

| Stick the card in the computer first, and set the settings. |

That doesn't do anything to the card so much as the software.
Can anyone else verify this? |

Ever notice it resets the card after you change settings ? That's why...
I'm pretty sure |

don't get me wrong, I would like to believe it.
just want to hear a few more voices on the matter because I don't think it's affecting the card. |

in fact, i will run a little test now.
i will "lock" it to 1xRTT and ROAM on my lappy, then pop it into my linksys. |

well poopasaurus... i just set the card to ROAMING ONLY and 1xRTT.
I checked my tracert and sure enough I'm going over Alltel hops. Then I ran my own personal speed test (download a 500mb RAR file from my hosted FTP site) and it shows at 13KB/s.
Not sure if that mean it's really good 1xRTT or really crappy EVDO. I will not try to change to ROAM ONLY & EVDO locking to see.
But I can't make my Laptop road at home because Sprint has EVDO here and it seems to lock me out of Alltel EVDO.
BTW, the router still shows the network as Sprint, but tracert confirms alltel. |

ok... so i think you're right. i moved it to EVDO/ROAM-ONLY and it wouldn't connect ...which is exactly how it works in my laptop.
1xRTT/ROAM-ONLY connected, but at 16KB/s.
And, just to repeat, the "NETWORK" status still reads "Sprint" even when connected to Alltel. You have to do a tracert command to verify which network you're on.
Hope this info helps someone.

| I think we can all agree that the router isn't the smartest thing when it comes to telling us specifics about our connection status. |

I think you need to have PRL 20225 to roam Alltel EVDO.
See the Manually Update PRL thread. |

yea, i was already updated.
it's been confirmed that EVDO roaming (in certain markets with overlapping Sprint and Alltel coverage) has been locked out.
my market (little rock) is one such place. |
