Wow really ? When I was in NC last week my home is covered with EVDO but I was having connection problems so I switched over to roaming when the tower went out. I was roaming on EVDO with no problems. I guess it could have been an Alltel tower in an area where Sprint didn't have EVDO though.

I know, it's totally jacked up. I actually think it's probably done by market, not tower by tower.

I have been to three "regions" in arkansas doing tests.

1. Little Rock / Central Arkansas
2. Hot Springs
3. Jonesboro / NE Arkansas

Sprint Presence: #1, #3
Alltel Presence: #1, #2, #3

I can roam only in #2 and #3. Sprint has nearly the same footprint as Alltel in #3, but I can roam on Alltel or go native and get on EVDO with Sprint there.

Area #2 isn't far from #1, but is pretty distinct. Roaming is fine there. But as soon as I hit the fringes of #1, roaming doesn't work.

That's the only conclusion I can draw given the fact I have the latest PRL.

I live in Columbia, SC and I have Sprint. 20225 allows 1x with Sprint and roaming with Alltell on EVDO. You have to manually update the PRL to 20226 for you to run EVDO without roaming. 20226 automatically pushes Alltell EVDO to Sprint. I hope this makes sense.
