Went today and got my U720! I've got Rev A! The speeds are alittle low right now but I havent optimized the connection yet.

Hey BigHurt,

Just read you post about the U720 and I am very jealous. LOL. I wanted to ask you what your meant by you statement that you haven't "optimized the connection yet". How do you optimize this device?

I am new to EVDO and the Novatel, still waiting it out to see if the Driver that Mac.Intosh put out, "holds out" with the new update to 10.4.9. I wouldn't want to buy it and activate service and then get knocked off the air because of no driver support. I am a Mac user Laughing

What I was talking about when I said "I haven't optimized the connection yet" is I was meaning I haven't adjusted the TCP Receive Window. Some times when you adjust this setting you can get alittle better performance out of your connection. The thing is I really haven't seen a real big change in my speeds since I have adjusted the TCP. I use SG TCP Optimizer and have tryed DrTCP.

Wow! That is good speed, and you say you are in Rev 0?? I bet if you were in a Rev A area, you would get much higher speeds, correct?

Rev0 users likely benefit from the RevA infrastructure. A couple months before my area was turned on with RevA, Rev0 performance was higher than ever... more often over 1Mbps down up to nearly 2Mbps, consistently over 100K up and latency would be about as good as Rev0 can do, 130-180ms where before it would often hit over 200ms. Granted, I'm pretty close to a tower both at home and work.

If you look at dslreports archive, a whole lot of Rev0 users (uplink below 150Kbps) are getting over 1Mbps, moreso than in the past.

http://www.dslreports.com/archive/spcsdns.net

So Rev0 users apparently can get better performance (upto Rev0 limits) on a RevA infrastructure even before RevA is 'turned on'.

Going to RevA doesn't guarantee higher performance than Rev0 every time. But the chances are higher you'll get relatively better performance.
Or if you get >1Mbps on Rev0 sometimes, you may get >1Mbps more often with RevA.
