I Have Bluetooth DUN on my Samsung I730!
I bought a Pretec SD BT card ($150.00) from www.pretec.com. This card supports pretty much all BT services.
Install the drivers, reboot and plug the Bluetooth card in the slot. When you pair it to your laptop the DUN service is available.
To set it up create a new dialup connection on the laptop with the “Bluetooth modem” selected.
Pay attention to the com port for the “Bluetooth modem” on the laptop and set the same port under “dun” in the new BT software on your phone, and change the port speed to the fastest available on the phone.
Set the username to: yourtendigitnumber@vzw3g.com and your password to: vzw and your dialup number to: #777
After all the setup make sure data on the phone is “DISCONNECTED”.
Go to your laptop, open the connection you created and connect.
If you did it correctly it will establish the Bluetooth connection and dial the data connection.
Things to look out for:
If you use a program like GoodLink that tries to constantly connect to the internet it will disable your connection every time it tries to connect.
You will have to disconnect and reconnect to get the data working again.
I hard reset my device to delete GoodLink and just loaded the new Bluetooth card up. I have been online for over an hour and I am getting about 128k on 1x.
Hope this helps some!

I don't get it. Doesn't the i730 have BT capability..or did Verizon disable it?
I have my eyes on the i730, as a mode for DUN capability. For $79.99, you get unlimited-data + 450 voice min/month. That blows away my current package with the PC5220: $79/month for data ONLY.
A Verizon rep told me I could switch over, just by buying the i730 for *full price*. No $175 penalty. The current Verizon-branded i730 does NOT have a 1.2M pixel camera.. I WANT THAT!! Rumors are that in Aug, a camera version will be available. Anybody know for sure? |

I like the idea of using bluetooth to connect to the evdo network, but isn't bluetooth limited to about 730Kb, whereas the EVDO network can give you up to 2.4 Mb? I don't know if there is an advantage to using bluetooth rather than using USB. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I just purchased the new UTStarcom/ Audiovox PC 5740 for my laptop but I was thinking of exchanging it for the UTStarcom/ Audiovox XV6600. Is it possible to use the evdo network as well as use the phone? |

With the samsung i730, when it's being used as a modem to transfer internet to your computing device via bluetooth/DUN or a direct usb cable, can it simultaneously be used as a voice device to make outgoing or receive incoming calls?
Because you can't have that with the xv6600...it's either in data mode or voice mode, can't walk and chew gum at the same time...

That is not a limitation of any EVDO device, but rather EVDO. You cannot use Data and voice at the same time.
The only way currently around it, is to use VOIP, such as Skype. I have used Skype and a Pocket PC and it works just fine! _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

...but still have some questions.
The xv6600 was a bust. It was Verizon's first attempt at an evdo phone and it's buggy as all hell. Type in xv6600 in Google and you'll see what I mean...forums from here to China have users organizing attempting to get class action suits started...seriously.
By the way, I also bought the xv6600...and it's bluetooth DUN capabilities were so buggy I just plain gave up...
...now it appears that Verizon has done a much better job with the i730...I've read several posts from people that had the xv6600 say that with the i730 all the problems they had with the xv6600 just disappeared with the i730.
But I'm concerned about one thing...I've read that Verizon has disabled bluetooth DUN in the i730...and yet, from this thread and others, apparently there are 2 or 3 different ways to get bluetooth dun working on the i730...
...but the $64,000 question is, is Verizon gonna ZAP you if you use one of these workarounds and they find out, with some bill the size of a small country's GDP??? |

| Hmmm, really? Skype works fine on the i730. I know someone who said it was crap and returned the phone. I know skype doesn't work that well even with EVDO pc card at full speed, because the upload limitation of 100k is difficult for skype. But just wondering if you did something different...like an adjustment to make skype work better iwth the i730. If Skype works fine...then you'd be using Skype all the time rather than a voice plan...but it really seems like Skype works somewhat when you are in a perfect signal area, but driving around with skype is not possible without big issues. And even being still STILL has its issues. |
