Hello All - first post here, but been reading and getting good info for a while now. I have an issue on my EVDO that I believe is causing me to loose a good deal of my bandwidth, and I'm looking for help.
First, my setup. I can't get DSL, Cable and my modem speeds were a joke, so I went to EVDO on a cell to get something worthwhile. We had teathered access turned on using my wifes Razor phone, and it works. When not online, we do have EVDO, and according to the Alltel "quicklink mobile" software, most of the time I have between 87% and 93% signal (no idea what db - this software doesn't show it). But my speeds are not up to par. I get (at best - varies widely during the day) about 250-330kbps download and only about 12-18kbps upload. This is still better than my modem ever did, but I watch the statistics (graph) and see something strange.
My transfer rate constantly goes up/down/up/down - it spikes way up to the max for a second, then back down to almost nothing for a second. It's a constant sawtooth - never a steady speed for any amount of time. Sounds a lot like some type of buffer filling up, but I'm not a network expert, so I'm looking for suggestions. It does this both on incoming and outgoing signals. Due to this, I only get about 70% of what I should be getting if I had a steady signal at the max rate. My lag times run from 260-350, which from reading here seems about normal. What may be causing this sawtooth effect?
Also, is there a better software I can use to monitor my signal other than quicklink? It really doesn't give a lot of options and control...
And yes, I have run TCP optimizer - it changed a lot of settings but did not change my rates at all.
Need Help - any ideas on how to improve this? |

| Yeah, I have the same thing and lag!, My lag times can be unlimited! I have had to disconnect/reconnect to wake this thing up. I used the TCP program and like you it changed settings and I'm still lag out. I thought that this KPC-650 was suppose to be such a great card? I'm using bysoft stay alive pro to keep the connection alive but the lag has continued to get worse. I shut off bysoft and she will disconnect! Running around 51% signal don't have db range. If you click statistics, You can see the pings from bysoft, but when I get ready to post, I can get a cup of coffee and take a leak and it still sitting there not doing anything. Right now I am roaming on sprint with Alltel software. I'm right now just off of the edge of th broadband signal. I'm getting 154kbs receive rate and 39kbs transmit. The map shows about 11/2 miles to broadband. I think Alltel is being screwed by Sprint. Glad I'm leaving here Monday. Where I'm heading I may not tobe able to connect at all. Will have to wait and see. Capt |
