Here is my question:
I have a remote location, using a 56dds circuit point to point to Central. Can I put in the linksys router, with my broadband sprint card, and attach the 8 pc's to the router. All have VPN access to Central. Is there a limitation to the number of PC's,or a limit to the broadband connection? This would replace my 56dds circuit. Anyone know if Sprint allows this type of connection? Sorry for all of these questions, but if this can be done, why doesnt all small business take advantage of this service?
Thanks-Netman2005

Sprint has a service called Data Link that does just that. Sprint routes traffic from Data Link provisioned EVDO devices through their EVDO network to a endpoint you specific. All Internet traffic is null routed so it is secure inside Sprint's network. You can connect anything you want to tunnel through that connection. If you do want Internet access, you'll need to provide it inside your end point concentrator.

I've been playing with my linksys routers and it looks like the unit will disconnect from EVDO if there is inactivity within a certain range, which cannot be set to 0.

Of course, this can easily be circumvented with some slightly cumbersome trickery ...but would seem to indicate that "24/7 unmanaged remote site" was not the primary application this unit was designed for.

This thing could be so much better designed, too.

For starters, it has a WAN port and PCMCIA slot. Cisco/Linksys should implement a failover/dual WAN solution instead of the idiotic way it currently works.

I have a similar gripe -- I'd like the Linksys to be reachable throuth it's dyndns name whether it's on the WWAN or the WAN connection. Right now it only updates dyndns.org if it's on the WWAN connection.... so there's no way to reach it unless you try two hosts -- whatever the IP address is on the WAN side and then if it's down, try it's {host}.dyndns.org name.

The only workaround would be to have a host inside the LAN that goes out to dyndns.org (or the dynamic update mechanism of your choice) and updates regularly behind the Linksys' back (and disable that feature in the linksys) but who wants to do that when the linksys already knows how to do it half the time (while using the WWAN)

see: http://www.evdoforums.com/thread5318.html for my commentary
